Election Day Is Here!

Watching CNN, they say it does not look like a Blue Wave :(

I think Dems will win control of House, but there will not be the 40+ seat swing some predicted. Also, GOP looks good in the Senate right now. Is that a backlash to Dems' failed Kavenaugh Gambit?
I also think that Dems overreached in Georgia and Florida nominating very left-wing candidates for governor. I think Stacy Evans would have done better than Abrams, and a less left candidate than Gillum (and one who is not under FBI investigation) would have done better. Likewise, Beto O'Rourke is popular with progressives, but too left for Texas.

Andrew Gillum is not under FBI investigation, but clearly Republicans lies worked.

And you had a leg up moving within the commonwealth. There is an even higher wall for outsiders.

Nope. Since 1981, whether one is moving within the commonweath or not makes no difference when coming to Australia.

Damn, just shows I learn something everyday.. thanks.

Ted Cruz is not losing :(

You didn't really expect otherwise (even though you hoped) did you? It is Texas and even though Beto pretended to be more conservative he was too transparent.

I think there's another factor at work. Beto is from El Paso. I used to live there. A significant portion of the Lone Star State looks down on the city made famous by Marty Robbins and doesn't consider it part of Texas proper.

And honestly I can see why to some degree. If you start driving from downtown in any direction but east, you'll leave Texas in short order. Plus the town is north of 70 percent Hispanic. As such, I'm not at all surprised that Texas would reject a resident of the 915.

At one point Beto was ahead and I really dislike Cruz

O'Rourke refused to go negative, and that was a serious mistake. He needed huge turnout and he needed to suppress the enthusiasm of conservative voters for Cruz. He utterly failed on the latter. It was already going to be a tough race for him to win, and eschewing going after Cruz in negative but completely honest and legitimate ways ensured he had no hope.

The bright side of this though is that O'Rourke plays well on the national stage. That means that this loss could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if he decides to run for POTUS in 2020.

Those re odd reasons to reject a town to me. Am I right to suspect it has another strike against it now?

I'm reminded of a marketing slogan the state used back then: "Texas, it's like a whole other country."

It really is. Larger than a lot of nations, has an independent streak baked into the cake of statehood, and El Paso doesn't really "fit" into the rest of the state.

So, effectively, Dems did OK. Not anywhere near a blue wave. They did poorly in the senate (losing several seats). Florida and Georgia decided to stick with Republicians. Looks like Kemp's strategy of fear and voter suppression worked as planned. They got about what was expected in the house. They'll have about a 20 seat majority.

He looks like a white Obama

Stacey Abrams refuses to concede.

Does that matter, though? Her concession isn't a necessary part of Kemp's victory.

Agreed, but with a vote this close, it doesn't hurt to wait until all the votes are verified. Afterall, maybe the Republicans registered voters from a cemetary or employed voters to vote twice. All of this should be checked out. :)

Ya, but it's checked out ... by Kemp. I'm fairly certain he's not going to find out anything which will affect the results.

How does Kemp know how many fraudulent votes were cast? ;)
