Since this scandal (and the
latest news about an August 30th 911 call regarding him, where he was found intoxicated and bleeding after a fall), I have been interested in the fallout and perception of the students and staff at Liberty University.
Just did a search and found this
article from August 25, where a professor makes some remarkably naive and ironic statements. They claimed to have learned their lesson when it comes to Falwell, but this is a culture that produces Trump's loyal base and they still excuse the same behaviors from him.
Professor Karen Swallow Prior (now at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary), notes "...ultimately it does point to the fact that the core of our belief---that we are to put our faith in God, not in men."
"The kind of arrogance and authoritarian leadership that we experienced as faculty was really just a symptom of this lifestyle that was one in which that he thought he could do anything and get away with it."
"...evangelicals will continue to value behavior versus faith."
If that last line was in the universe of being true, evangelicals should not be voting for Trump in the election. That will spell some trouble for his campaign.
