The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday approved final rules for a new broadband subsidy program that could help struggling families pay for internet service during the pandemic.

Yes, that's right folks, the FCC is finalizing rules to provide a subsidy for broadband access to families in poverty during this pandemic... which (hopefully) is near its end. Granted, Broadband is a necessity, the pandemic proved it. But still, it seems very sad that the FCC took about the length of a pandemic to help provide broadband support to people in poverty. Thankfully, at least some areas, had internet providers that stepped up with broadband access and they didn't wait for the FCC to get the barn door closed after the cow, that escaped a year ago... died from old age.

Signups for the pandemic internet benefits could begin within the next 60 days, said Jessica Rosenworcel, the FCC’s acting chairwoman, after the agency establishes the systems needed to work with internet providers.
And not a moment in time.

That is capitalism actually doing what's right without the government twisting its arm. More of this is needed in all lines of business but not only for the pandemic (and does happen more often than people think). It's a net benefit to everyone. Just this last weekend a local food bank at my mother in laws church gave 10k to a family in need (fresh out of Honduras) and the joy they expressed was overwhelming. I cried like (as they put it in my hood) a bitch ass nigga. Anyway, the reason I mention this, is to say to anyone upset at other people getting assistance and calling it a "handout" that you're just a downright selfish asshole.

Very much an exaple of capitalism doing what's right. The way that it usually does. Which is to say, inconsistently and ineffectively. Just like when federal bureaucracy does it.
