Golden State Warriors and Curry Make a Run at the NBA Win Record

I hadn't watched any NBA games this season till this week. I figured I'd watch the Warriors come out to play. Saw their last two games.

I don't get the hype. They suck.

Well, they had been playing much better than that before those two games for the last year and a half.

Cleveland v Oklahoma City. Let the conspiracy theories abound about how the NBA wants Curry in the finals, but he isn't there.

Fivethirtyeight ranked them the second best team of all time next to the 96 Bulls. I watched their away games for most of the season and can confirm they're astoundingly good 98% of the time, unfortunately the 2% fell right in a row this series.

Their ratings criteria don't seem to effectively measure teams across eras, especially before the '80's. The '96 Bulls would have beaten the Warriors like a rented mule. Curry would think he'd grown a conjoined twin.

538 uses a rating system like they use for chess, which can suffer from an inflation effect, where the same rating number means less in a later year.

Yea definitely have a healthy amount of scepticism when I read their stats, but they usually are a pretty good indicator.

A different model might rank Golden State lower, but any model ranking them 2nd all time is a good indication that they're a very good team.

FWIW, I only got more into sports in the past few years as my college career wrapped up. I know much less than many but rely on 538 to tell me a good story now and then.

I believe you; those were really the only two games I've seen of them. If they come back now to win it all, it would validate the hype.

Looking like they had a bit of a blip in the third round and got their momentum back. Cavs are getting crushed.

If you call losing by a combined total of 48 points in the first two games "getting crushed", I suppose. :o

Watching James after they won was one of the more surreal moments I've had watching sports. Pure emotion.

Now for the click-bait titles of the Warriors win record being meaningless and LeBron quieting the doubters.
