They fuck you at the bird-feeder, okay? They fuck you at the feeder! They know you're gonna be yards away before you find out you got fucked! They know you're not gonna turn around and go back, they don't care. So who gets fucked? Ol' Leo Squirrel! Okay, sure! I don't give a fuck! I'm not eating this millet, okay?

You know, I always found that scene to be grossly over-rated. First, Sharon Stone is tremendously over-rated. And who for goodness sake, in a world replete with porn and images of the female genitalia, could really get THAT excited over the sight of it? Come on. The whole thing was so overblown.

Shock value? I know the film was a while back, but people were jaded with "shock" even then.

Agreed. Reminds me of back in the pre-Internet days when the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue would come out, and the hype would be off the scales. It was like the media and the male population had never seen a picture of a scantily clad (much less naked) woman before. I remember thinking, "Am I the only who has heard of Playboy?" The hype seemed to have died down, but now apparently SI is going along with woke culture and the body positivity movement on its swimsuit models which is reigniting the hype again but for different reasons.

I think it was more a matter of a big Hollywood star showing her vag on the big screen in a mainstream movie. It was a sensation at the time because it had never been done before.

Now it's not unusual at all to find out big stars tried their hand at porn.

Maybe I'm missing something, but is there some sort of backstory or deeper meaning behind the bundled up Bernie meme? Its a sort of mildly amusing picture, that you see once, chuckle and forget but for some reason its become this huge thing.

No deep meaning. Just amusing seeing him bundled up like that at a huge official event where people are usually dressed up. Also with the background it made it easier to extract him to put anywhere. And a lot of people just like the guy.

This is how societies have always been. A chaotic* churn of ideas, phrases, and images, which occasionally throws up something that just strikes a chord with the vast majority of people who are exposed to it. In modern times, the Internet allows that society to be huge, and allows those successful memes** to suddenly become ubiquitous.

Any idea that crosses the threshold of R=1*** will suddenly be everywhere. When the R value is far greater than 1, it can seem like it's pushing everything else aside.

Ideas are infectious. The Internet makes for a vast pool of hosts. If you want to understand why Bernie is everywhere right now, the answers lie in epidemiology.

*In the mathematical sense
**In the genetic sense
***R being the mean number of people who a person passes the idea on to, once they have seen or heard it.
