Is DoT telling truckers to run over protesters?

Saw this on Facebook and wondering if this is a hoax.



I know about Reginald Denny but just plowing through people who are blocking the road in a protest isn’t enough to claim self defense. Maybe if they start climbing on the truck then you can take action. So I wouldn’t think lawyers from DOT would approve this message, but then again this is the Trump administration.

Looks like hoax to me. The message comes from this guy's blog post from 2016:

If someone tries to stop your vehicle by standing in front of it–do NOT stop. Slow down, but do not stop. In this situation just take your foot off the gas pedal and allow the engine to slowly push them out of way. Don’t accelerate erratically and strike the people blocking your vehicle. Instead nudge or push them out of the way as gently as possible. Again, the goal is to escape the situation safely without injuring anyone.

However, if the crowd begins to attack your vehicle and you believe you and your passengers are in imminent danger, then steadily increase your speed to the point where rioters cannot disable your vehicle and get out of there as quickly as possible. If it comes down to a choice of protecting your friends and family and striking a rioter–the choice is obvious.

9-What happens if you do strike someone?

If you do strike someone, first, safely escape the situation. Once you reach a safe distance away. Call 911, report the incident and wait for further instructions from law enforcement. As long as you do this, you will likely not be charged with hit and run.

Beyond that, I have a growing concern of deadly confrontation(s) of not just from a scenario like this but perhaps also developing from far right and left factions confronting each other. All this fueled by a president who would throw this country into chaos if it meets his needs.

You don't get to claim immunity from a crime by saying you were panicking, if you also created the scenario that made you panic. One cannot accidentally drive into a street protest on a closed freeway.

Of course you cannot just run people over because they are in your way. Obviously the truck driver would have no business there in the first place and would be able to confidently drive in reverse with an empty highway behind them. A likely scenario I'm thinking of would be one where the trucker turns onto a surface street and is surprised by protesters. A situation that does put a person in fear for their life.
This is my point, to consider the question: What does one do when they are in fear for their life when the safety of the cab and the movement of the vehicle is their defense? I think that is what the statement in the OP alludes to.

Something very ugly is likely to happen. It may not be a stuck and panicked truck driver.

What if ANIFA did show up here?
