Things are not looking good for ISIS, losing territories and now this:
Tens of thousands of documents, containing 22,000 names, addresses, telephone numbers and family contacts of Islamic State jihadis, have been obtained by Sky News.

Nationals from at least 51 countries, including the UK, had to give up their most personal information as they joined the terror organisation. Only when the 23 question form was filled in were they inducted into IS.

A lot of the names and their new Islamic State names on the registration forms are well known.

Abdel Bary, a 26-year-old from London joined in 2013 after visiting Libya, Egypt and Turkey. He is designated as a fighter but is better known in the UK as a rap artist. His whereabouts are unknown.
......

No this is not a Snowden.

This is a hero.

Even though it is a similar action.

It all depends on who's crimes you expose.

Europe will do nothing, They will most likely treated as traumatised and put on benefits while undergoing therapy.

They need to give up that much personal information to join? ISIS sounds like it's almost as evil as Apple.

I thought you would be supportive of Snowden.

After all, he exposed some of the crimes of what you label the largest terrorist organisation in the world: the US government.

How am I not supporting Snowden?

I say he is labeled a criminal for doing things we call others a hero for doing.

And I say the label has nothing to do with what is exposed.

It has everything to do with who is exposed.

Note to ISIL members.
Now that the US military has your phone number, they can call you up, track your location, and call in the Hellfire equiped Predator drones. Destroy your phones RIGHT NOW. Then, run away. Note to ISIL leaders, they can read where these ISIL morons have been calling and track you now too. DESTROY ALL PHONES! Dig deeper holes. The drones are coming! The drones are coming!

This is nothing like Snowden. Snowden exposed actions he considered improper rather than engaging in a raw data dump. This is simply a raw data dump for revenge.

I also don't see that it's going to cause them all that much harm--knowing their identities won't stop them from fighting for ISIS. It would only be of use if they tried to infiltrate some for terrorist purposes and in that case they would have fake ID anyway.

It would have been a more powerful strike against ISIS, if the hack were not public knowledge.

True intelligence work is death by 1000 cuts. To have a list of the true identity and home of ISIS's foreign recruits would be an intelligence gold mine, especially if the fighters thought they were still anonymous. It's a long list of phone numbers and mail boxes to watch.

The intelligence services probably already have a pretty good idea based on those who left and didn't come back.

So no similarities at all?
Both worked as IT monkeys, both became disillusioned with their organizations "methods", both leaked info which is damaging (in different ways) to them.

It's not about fighting, ISIS has pretty much lost at this time. It's about thousands and thousands terrorists returning back to Europe.
And now they probably know that they can't do that and have to die in Iraq/Syria, which is fine with Europeans I guess.
