Possible lake spotted under a polar ice cap—on Mars

Radar indicates that Mars may have analogs of Earth's subglacial lakes.

"Outside experts have not been able to confirm these findings with other radar detections, like SHARAD, the Shallow Radar sounder onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter."

It is never too early to leap to conclusions.

Reminds me of this:

Liquid water under the surface of Mars is not impossible. It's too early to say whether this 'discovery' will pan out or not.

Yeah... there could be a brine lake under the surface. But as usual, the press reports a study's findings as fact, not as evidence towards a particular conclusion that requires additional observations.

The Press loves a good story. If it's good enough to publish, it good enough to embellish, a good story made even better.....

I think it is plausible that it is water. I think NASA should make a plan to check it out. Maybe they will have to wait to build the new Space Force first though.

Maybe we can find a way to move the water to California. They need it.

The Pacific Ocean has dried up? How is this not headline news?

How is a govt study that LA will tun short of water in a few decasdes not news? We look up ignoring what is at our feet.

LA is at the seaside.

It will never run short of water. It may run short of sweet water if no adequate desalination facilities are made available, but even than Martian water won't help. Even unprocessed, the waters of the Pacific Ocean are a thousand times closer to being potable that whatever brine lakes we may find on Mars.
