This should be interesting, because it is kind of a "put up or shut up" order. Trump got away with raising hundreds of millions over claims he never made in court.

I wonder what the lawyers' response will be.

It can be literally anything and it won't matter, except down the road at someone's disbarment hearing. The argument got stayed and thus is mooted.

You can expect them to go in whole hog on this lying their asses off, I bet.

I dunno about that. They've been smacked down twice - once by the appeals court, and once by Trump's hand-picked Special Master, who seems to be saying (legally speaking) "I ain't got time for this bullshit." The lawyers seem to have grasped that they can't lie to the judge, and if they're even a little bit smart they'll realize that they're way out of their depth. Isn't one of them a parking lot lawyer?

To be point being, they can say what they want about it to the press but there's no more legal rope they can play out. Whatever they file will be rejected because the special master themselves got rejected despite rejecting the Trump plea.

Let’s clear one thing up. Obama thought about Hillary’s emails for two seconds, declassifying everything in them, so that is all fine now right?

When did this happen?

Whenever the invisible pink unicorn said it happened.

Obviously.

Marc will eventually get around to backing up the claim. Or not. What Obama did was issue the executive order that defines the procedure for declassifying documents. That's the executive order that Trump thought he didn't need to bother complying with. He just assumed that his power to declassify documents meant that he could just say they were declassified and make it so by decree. He thought that many of his powers were essentially that of a monarch, so he could issue decrees to pretty much do anything he wanted. He even thought he could hire and fire people that way. He did the deciding. Government lackeys in the background were supposed to do whatever needed to be done to make it so. Like a captain at the helm of the Starship Enterprise.

To clarify, it was a joke. According to Trump the president has the ability to declassify with just a thought, without telling anyone. Well Obama would have had the same power, and since the whole emails BS was about supposedly mishandling classified docs, Obama could just declare that he had declassified everything in her emails, so no case to ‘lock her up’ over

“He’s done, said Allan Lichtman, a history professor at American University, in Washington, who has accurately predicted every presidential election since 1984. “He’s got too many burdens, too much baggage to be able to run again even presuming he escapes jail, he escapes bankruptcy. I’m not sure he’s going to escape jail.”

Is there a law that prevents a felon from ruining for president?

If anything this all increases his creds with his followers.

They've resiled from that so far, reserving lying their asses off only for contexts where perjury charges aren't a consequence of being caught in an outright lie.

They lie to reporters; They lie to supporters; And the Internet is reportedly the source of the majority of pant fire outbreaks to which the fire department have been called.

But lying in court and to judges has consequences.

Suprisingly enough, there is no law prohibiting that. I looked into this many years ago when Lyndon LaRouche was running for president - while he was in jail!

You are probably right about his followers considering that to be a plus factor for Trump.

From the description:
Lies and misinformation.
Judge Dearie has instructed Trump to swear an affidavit, under penalty of perjury, attesting to the same things he has been saying on social media and in the press/on TV (he declassified the documents, the document were planted by the FBI etc) or to withdraw those claims. He has been told by the judge to put up or shut up.

Special Master Assistant
Judge Dearie has appointed an assistant, which will be billed to Trump at 500/hr. He has ordered that the invoice must be paid withing seven days or Trump will be ruled in contempt of court.
Great pick you made on Dearie. (y)

Here's a CNN article on it so you don't have to watch the video.

He has to submit the affidavit by next Friday. How will they stall this time? I guess he'll still say he can't say anything because it'll affect the criminal case.

Oh this is it.

I think this is a critical breaking point.

They are being told by the fruits of their own request granted, to testify.

News clip from MSNBC. No need to watch the whole thing. The first 2 minutes are all you need.

Trump (in his interview with still-hasn't-been-waterboarded-boy) seems to indicate that after declassifying national security documents, he sent them to "wherever."

If we take this as the typical "bragging but still trying to obfuscate" tactic from Trump, it isn't hard to imagine that he "declassified" the documents before he sold them off to our enemies.

Then Miles Taylor, a former Chief of Staff at DHS under Trump, rescues a jumbled, inaccurate movie reference from the host. "What we're talking about is a very different sub-species here."

Zing. Trump is a fucking idiot who probably gave up our national security because...reasons.

Trump doesn't need to be right, he just needs his sycophantic supporters to think he is right. They are the ones that resorted to violence on January 6, 2021. And they'll be the ones bringing a lot more arms next time.

He is more at risk in court, but he already got away with so much in his life and presidency. And remember, he is the plaintiff in this case and can just drop it.

What is truly interesting is that the special master (that was approved by Mr. Trump's legal team) is not buying their bullshit.

He can't just drop the DOJ's case.

And on that, one of his hapless lawyers should tell him his words can be used against him in a court of law. He's admitting to Hannity he deliberately took the documents. And also claiming he declassified them, which wouldn't help him in the case anyway, but which also admits he's a reckless idiotic menace to national security.

He can drop the Special Master portion of it.

I keep visiting the Fox News site in the forlorn hope that I will see some way they are spinning the ongoing Mar-a-Lago revelations. So far, nada. Maybe the story is buried somewhere. I haven't watched their TV stream to see whether they give it any mention. It's hard to believe that most of their viewers are completely unaware of what is going on, but there must be a substantial number who aren't reading or hearing anything at all about it.

I love Florida. But I'd rather hang out in the everglades with the gators and snakes than with the snakes and predators in the cities.

I had to go to Florida several times for business many year ago. Orlando, Tampa, south around Miami. Forgotten exactly. My first impression of Florida at the time is that it has little lizards and the place smells like pee.

I'd be laughing uncontrollably if it weren't for people like Ashli Babbitt being critically ignorant enough to die for this fool.

Christina Bobb, Trump's lawyer who in her capacity as a lawyer signed in lawyery fashion that Trump had returned all the documents whilst representing Trump as his lawyer and then went on to numerous reich wing networks claiming to be Trump's lawyer in this is now saying she was never Trump's lawyer.

Timestamped at the video were she says that.

To be fair she seemed to be saying that she was never on his legal team working on the election issues.

Agreed. Which leads to a few more obvious questions;

Why didn't you correct any of the networks you were on in the last month and a bit?
Why were you answering questions on something you claim you weren't a part of?
Why did you sign off on something, which could quite literally put your legal career in jeopardy, if you weren't a party to it and had no way of verifying if what you claimed was accurate?

That's off the top of my head, I'm sure actual lawyers/prosecutors/FBI investigators can think of a few more.

Newest addition to Trump’s legal team sidelined in Mar-a-Lago search case

The newest addition to former President Donald Trump’s legal team, Chris Kise, has been sidelined from the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation less than a month after he was brought on to represent Trump in the matter, two sources familiar with the move tell CNN.

Kise is expected to remain on Trump’s legal team but is not leading the work related to the federal government’s investigation into how the former President handled 11,000 documents seized from his Florida home in August following a lengthy effort by the government to retrieve them. The reason for the shift in Kise’s role remains unclear and he may instead focus his efforts on the other investigations Trump is facing, which range from his business practices to the January 6 insurrection.

The move is notable given Kise, the former solicitor general for Florida, was brought on to the team after a weeks-long search and struggle to find someone willing to take on the case who was also experienced in Florida law. The legal strategy for fighting the Justice Department following the August seizure of over 100 documents marked as classified was also in disarray.

Kise’s hiring came with an unusual price tag of $3 million, paid for by Trump’s outside spending arm. The retainer fee, paid upfront, raised eyebrows among other lawyers on Trump’s team, given the former President has a developed a reputation for not paying his legal fees.

His sidelining will likely be read as another setback for Trump as he faces multiple investigations.

I think it is clear now that there is now that since Trump had nuclear secrets and was going to sell them to Russia, it is time to take a hard line on Trump and his supporters. Thank you Jimmy for explaining that part to me about what Trump had in his possession and his intention.

We need to give Biden emergency powers to deal with the whole MAGA movement.

They need to be removed from society. First thing would be hearings to determine if a suspect has ever supported Trump. Those who have should be sent away to be reeducated. Those who can be rehabilitated can eventually be readmitted to society. The rest, well, there is no hope for them and they should be eliminated.
