People blame racial profiling for arrests in ridiculously large party that'll likely fuck things up for everyone.

To make matters worse, it looks like the party of 3,000 people was given a wide berth.

"I think they're running it until 10, so, just so we don't have a big problem, let's let them run it until 10 as long as they behave," one officer is heard saying over the video. Neither the city of DeLand, nor the county of Volusia, had issued a permit for the block party as it started on private property, DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said in a news conference Monday.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a passenger in a vehicle pointed a rifle or shotgun out of an open window, in the direction of a deputy and pedestrians gathered at a gas station, the statement by VCSO reads.

Shortly after midnight, police say deputies walking through the block party witnessed a firearm exchange between two men. A deputy approached the men commanding them to drop the gun, and one of the men ran away, according to VCSO's statement. The deputy ran after the man. The suspect allegedly threw the gun and kept running, but he was taken to the ground nearby, the statement reads.
Yeah, so 3,000 or so dumbasses are busy partying and helping spread the plague, and the police get involved over firearm issues. And then people start crying about racism.

I just want to cry.

Was there loud rock and roll music ?!!! OMG, were any of the kids *gasp* DANCING ?!!! MONSTERS !!

Florida's scientist was fired for refusing to 'manipulate' COVID-19 data

1) I didn't know Florida actually had a scientist, since DeSantis won stole the Governor's seat.
2) It's not exactly news that the DeSantis regime wants to substitute trumpery for data.

"In an email last Friday to researchers and other data users, Jones warned that with her removal changes were likely coming to the accessibility and transparency of the dashboard data."

I feel very sorry for this woman.

she single-handedly created two applications in two languages, four dashboards, six unique maps with layers of data functionality for 32 variables covering a half a million lines of data. Her objective was to create a way for Floridians and researchers to see what the COVID-19 situation was in real time.

Then, she was dismissed.

"I worked on it alone, sixteen hours a day for two months, most of which I was never paid for, and now that this has happened I'll probably never get paid for," she wrote in an email, confirming that she had not just been reassigned on May 5, but fired from her job as Geographic Information Systems manager for the Florida Department of Health.

This is unconscionable. DeSantis is a trumpsucking lowlife scumbag.

Was there loud rock and roll music ?!!!
Given the demographics of the party goers, it was much more likely loud hip-hop/rap.
In any case, the issue was not the music, but the fact that such large gathering are the very opposite to "social distancing" we should be practicing. Black people are more seriously affected by COVID-19, and yet they blame "racism" for it and not dumb-asses like those at this "Petri dish" party.
A new study shows just how badly black Americans have been hit by Covid-19

And it was not just the abject lack of social distancing. There was a lot of criminal activity at the party.
Some idiot pointed a long at people, including a deputy.

There were also illegal gun sales (or at least transfers) going on.

Deputies recovered the firearm and he was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon/ammunition by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, inciting a riot and resisting an officer without violence. The other individual police say was in the firearm exchange, was arrested on many of the same charges, with the exception of tampering with evidence. He was also charged with possession of a concealed firearm.

There was also direct anti-police violence.

After the two arrests, VCSO says that two deputies were hit with a cup of alcohol and while the person who threw it was being taken into custody, one of the deputies was sucker punched by another male subject who immediately fled the area. Additionally, another deputy and a DeLand police officer were hit with a bar stool and mason jar by other members of the crowd who immediately also fled, according to a statement by VCSO. Crowds gathered in the neighborhood continued to throw glass bottles at patrol vehicles in the street while arrests were being made, the statement adds.

So yeah, nothing to do with music or dancing. This is not a reboot of Footloose!

The West Volusia Beacon newspaper published comments from unnamed people they described as participants in the gathering, and reported that many were frustrated with the police response to the gathering. "Why do they try to take our humanity? Our pride? It's not fair to us -- we're all human," one unnamed woman is quoted as saying.
If you want to be treated with respect, you need to act accordingly. It's a two-way street.

Wait, black people blame racism for COVID-19 being extra bad on black people ? How would that work ? I can't say I have heard that. Is this like black people blaming whitey for giving them meth/cocaine or something ?

Stupidity like this only plays a minor role--they're more likely to die if they do get it and they're claiming that's due to inferior care. Never mind that it's not just the US. Stupidity does play a part in it, though--if you catch Covid-19 in a stupid way you're more likely to get a high exposure and thus have a more serious case.

I did not mean to say it was a major role in itself.
I think the main reasons for blacks getting infected more often have a lot to do with them being overrepresented in jobs with high public interactions like grocery stores and restaurants. There is also the fact that blacks tend to live in cities with higher population densities and are also relying on transit more often.
And the main reason for developing serious disease/dying more often is that they have a higher rate of comorbidities like diabetes.
There could also be some genetic component (diseases like HIV/AIDS and Malaria have it for example) but it would take studies to suss that out.

My point was a bit different. If you know that you are part of the demographic that is at a higher risk from COVID19, why take undue risks for your family and yourself by attending a huge-ass party?

Yes, viral load plays a role too. Which is why non-N95 masks may help even if they do not stop all virus entering your airways - if they reduce the number of virus particles that can be a huge benefit in itself.

Why do you say DeSantis "stole" the seat? You don't think that likely meth head Gillum could have lost fair and square?

In the end, Dems nominated a candidate who was way too left-wing for the general election.

Gwen Graham or even Phlip Levine would most likely have won the general election with some margin.

If you want to blame something for this nomination blunder, blame the FPTP system for the nomination - Gillum got the nomination with only a bit over a third of the primary vote - no runoff or anything.

Nearly 200 people arrested, two shot during 'Go Topless Jeep Weekend' in Texas

A raucous Texas beach event known as "Go Topless Jeep Weekend" ended with two people hospitalized following a shooting and nearly 200 others arrested on various charges.

Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said two men were airlifted to the hospital after both of them were shot in the torso during the annual event on Bolivar Peninsula, which brings together thousands of Jeep lovers and 4-wheeler enthusiasts.

A group of men and women were arguing when the fight escalated and gunshots rang out, Trochesset told NBC News. The conditions of the two men who were hospitalized haven't been released.

Authorities are looking for a third man who fled, the sheriff said Tuesday. No arrests were made in the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

By the time the gathering ended, more than 180 attendees had been taken into custody on numerous unrelated charges. The sheriff said charges included assault, driving without wearing a seat belt, DWI and public intoxication. Most of those who were arrested have since bonded out.

I always knew Texicans were a bunch of bailouts.

Thanks for the bit ZiprHead.

Postscript from article.

We been in quarantine, and I need to get out and party," beachgoer Chelsey Coyer told KBMT, reminding people how to take precautions. "Wash them hands for 20 seconds and keep them clean with the Germ-X.
...... and git real close together, git mad, git yer gun, git high, git plenty of germs for granny.

Eyup them fun luvin' empty headed texicans.

Being shot and killed is waaaay more likely than Covid19 killing them.

The big problem is these little stupids getting covid-19 and spreading it all around. Too stupid to care about that.

There is a very slight risk they may contract covid-19 or any other virus that is out there and even if they do, the vast majority of them will never know they ever had it. There is also a slight chance they may spread it to someone else, most likely in their peer group so it's not that big a problem.

And you had yo BE THERE to be shot. You can be five degrees of separation away from an attendee and get the deads.

This is all true but so is the point that overall black people and Latinos tend to have much less access to good medical care. So do people of any race who belong to lower socioeconomic classes.

I have some family (by marriage) who moved to FL about a year ago. They'll fit right in with the rest of the Trumpsters. All over their FB page is all kinds of stuff about how stupid it is to have all these restrictions, etc. They have a college age daughter and they were all out on the beaches until the beaches were closed down and are right back out there now. The parents aren't stupid, per se, but they're not well educated and they have a particular mindset -as I wrote: they're Trumpsters. The 'news' they consume is all Fox 24/7. I strongly suspect there isn't a lot of difference in news consumption between my relatives and those party goers: Fox, Facebook and Instagram.

Also, I notice among a LOT of people there is denial: they are certain that they are healthy, that they won't get sick, that they are 'careful' enough. Most of us grew up with the idea that being out in the fresh air was healthy. It's hard to overcome that mindset established from childhood.

True. We have already seen spikes from bar scenes, nightclubs and even churches. But afaik beaches have not been positively identified as origins of hot spots. I am a bit skeptical about how easy it might be to transmit the virus outdoors in a beach-type environment, especially if the wind is blowing. I suspect it's pretty difficult. That said, I do wear a mask in public, even outdoors, mostly to make others more comfortable. But I've been riding (horses) in cutting practice with no mask and up to 6 people in the outdoor arena at a time, and have little concern as long as nobody is talking directly at me from close range.
At some point we all decide to take our chances. I consider myself pretty conservative about it, and don't take chances that I don't think are really long odds against getting the virus. Presumably that is the same for "MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!" trumpsuckers, too.
