The White House decided to try and up the freakiness from last Xmas's decorations. While a few liked it, many others felt it was a scene out of a Tim Burton movie.

So now we have this.

It appears to be a cross between Executive Stormtroopers and Daleks.

Now, I want to be gentle here and not be too harsh on the most bullied person in the nation, but it seems Xmas 2.0 feels as festive as Xmas 1.0 last year.

I should note, the rest of the set up looks quite nice. It is just that darn hallway again. I'm surprised she didn't put a child height angel statue on both sides of the tree a la The Shining.

I really would be worried about someone jumping out and attacking me if I were walking down that hallway. Not only because it's kind of creepy looking, but because it's in the White House and the Secret Service would probably do that if I snuck into there.

If it was just starting to be decorated, then I could see it. Silver and green garland and ornaments, it could look nice. Just leaving it as gore red cones is weird.

I like how one person on twitter topped each tree with the Handmaids Tale hoods.

the claim is that the red trees are meant to reflect the red stripes of our flag. Whatever. She's got weird taste. I did like the way the shadows formed from the chandeliers last year... and that is partly still there... but I see how it appears creepy to some... She seems a little creepy to me, but I think that is from all her face-lifts or whatever... affected her ability to smile like a human. The red trees don't look "christmasy" to me.

I agree, I would have expected to see such a display in The Hunger Games.

If this were their private residence, I would think that any criticism was out of line. But the White House is not just the President's home: it is a public space. And it looks...not at all in keeping with the Christmas season.


I would guess that the red is to give homage to the Red States/GOP but in truth, it reminds me of Russia, which could be it's 'secret' reference.

When I was in jr high school there was a phone booth in the main hall that students could use. It was painted the same uninviting shade of red on the inside. The belief was that it had the effect of making people want to leave as soon as possible.
