Six men were arrested and accused of plotting with a militia group to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, the authorities announced on Thursday.

The men, who the F.B.I. said espoused anti-government views, had talked about taking Ms. Whitmer, a Democrat, hostage since at least the summer, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court and unsealed on Thursday.

They had surveilled Ms. Whitmer’s vacation home in August and September, and they indicated that they wanted to take her hostage before the presidential election in November, Richard J. Trask II, an F.B.I. special agent, said in the criminal complaint. He said the F.B.I. believed the men were planning to buy explosives this week for their attempt.

Several of the men had talked about creating a society in which they could be “self-sufficient” and one said he wanted 200 men to storm the Statehouse in Lansing, Mich, the complaint said.

Ms. Whitmer has been the subject of attack from right-wing protesters for measures she imposed to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Thousands of people gathered at the State Capitol to protest the executive orders she issued shutting down most of the state to help stop the spread of the virus that has now infected more than 145,000 Michiganders and killed more than 7,000.

Yet some people continue to believe that the disorganization known as Antifa is the big, scary threat, when in fact, these right wing militias actually plotted to kidnap an elected governor. This is domestic terrorism! Happy to hear that the FBI was wise to them before it was too late.

You beat me too it! I suspect that if Trump loses, we will see a lot more idiocy like this. Right wingers driven into a frenzy. Will a defeated Trump egg them on with wild rages tweeting?

Trump will most likely be given a chance (or two) to unequivocally denounce these domestic terrorists.
And will most likely pass up that opportunity.

Welcome to the board, LoAmmo. Why don't you stop by the lounge and introduce yourself.

So, is this a right wing militia or an anarchist militia? Based on the news I've read it seems to be the latter.

It's left-wing false-flag operators framing innocent anarchists who recruited RW militiamen for manpower. A media falsehood to pretend the right is JustAsBad. Fake news. Deep State manipulation of sovereign citizenry. Whitmer probably in on it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Genuine question for the media / law enforcement: why are you calling these armed neo-nazi groups breaking the law “militias” instead of “gangs” or “domestic terrorist groups?”" / Twitter

Feds say they thwarted militia plot to kidnap Whitmer

That may be why the right wing howls about Antifa -- they often know about their militia friends and they then project their awareness onto the left. Thus they imagine that the left has a militia just like theirs. It's like the right-wingers who know all about the oligarchs who fund them who then picture George Soros as some sort of left-wing-villain version of Charles Koch.

Meaning the honky race. If one wants to be strict about genetics, that would include lots of people not usually called "white" in the present-day US. North Africans, Horn-of-Africa people, Middle Easterners, Indian-Subcontinent people, and also many Hispanics, at least partially.

Facebook Executives Shut Down Efforts to Make the Site Less Divisive - WSJ - "The social-media giant internally studied how it polarizes users, then largely shelved the research"

Deepa Seetharaman on Twitter: "New from @JeffHorwitz & me: ..." / Twitter
New from @JeffHorwitz & me: Facebook spent years studying the its role in polarization, according to sources and internal documents. One internal slide laid out the issue like so. ”Our algorithms exploit the human brain's attraction to divisiveness.”

The concern predates the election. A 2016 slide shows showed extremist content thriving in more than one-third of large German political groups. “64% of all extremist group joins are due to our recommendation tools.” “Our recommendation systems grow the problem.”

The “common ground” team at Facebook wasn’t trying to change people’s minds. They were trying to stop the vilification of the other side. And they came up with different product ideas to tone down the rhetoric on Facebook.

(quoting in an image file)
One proposal sought to salvage conversations in groups derailed by hot-button issues, according to the people familiar with the team and internal documents. If two members of a Facebook group devoted to parenting fought about vaccinations, the moderators could establish a temporary subgroup to host the argument or limit the frequency of posting on the topic to avoid a public flame war.

But top executives shelved the effort. Policy exec Joel Kaplan considered the initiative “paternalistic,” per sources. The moves also affected right-leaning pages too much & risked growth.

Kaplan spoke on the record for this story & defended his vetting process (code: Eat Your Veggies). For more background, here’s our profile of Kaplan from Dec. 2018.

NEW from me: some light holiday reading about Joel Kaplan, one of the most controversial & influential executives at Facebook, & his growing ability to kill, postpone & shape $fb products that risk making conservatives angry.
Facebook’s Lonely Conservative Takes on a Power Position - WSJ - "Joel Kaplan has emerged as the social-media site’s protector against allegations of political bias"

The FBI allegedly found pallets and pallets of canned soup in the basement!

Meanwhile these idiots wanted 200 people involved in the storming. How in the fucking blue hell do you keep something like that secret with 200 people involved!?

More:
For example: Until recently, $fb was exploring news-feed products to fight polarization. 1 reason it stalled: fears of anti-conservative bias after $fb research showed right-leaning users were less exposed to different points of view than those on the L.

Mr. Kaplan balked when briefed on internal Facebook research that found right-leaning users tended to be more polarized, or less exposed to different points of view, than those on the left, according to people familiar with the analysis. That internal research tracks with the findings of academic studies.

Mr. Kaplan, joined by other Facebook executives, argued that the efforts to mitigate polarization could disproportionately hurt conservative voices, triggering claims of bias and exposing Facebook to allegations of social-engineering, people familiar with his response said. He said

Kaplan is v involved in news-feed ranking changes, esp those around fake news, I’m told. He’s also argued that $FB should allow @DailyCaller’s fact-checking unit to join $fb’s fact-checking program. That was hugely controversial internally.

(from image file)
This summer, Mr. Kaplan pushed to partner with right-wing news site The Daily Caller's fact-checking division after conservatives accused Facebook of working only with mainstream publishers, people familiar with the discussions said. Conservative critics argued those publications had a built-in liberal bias.

$fb wouldn’t make Kaplan available to chat, but other senior execs said the policy’s increased involvement in product is about managing risk — and something employees are still getting used to.

BTW, if Kaplan sounds familiar, it’s bc he’s the $fb exec who sat behind Kavanaugh during his hearings about sexual misconduct allegations. (https://wsj.com/articles/zuckerberg...es-appearance-at-kavanaugh-hearing-1538687361) Employees were / remain angry abt his appearance; some directly confronted him abt it
Zuckerberg Faces Anger Over Facebook Executive’s Kavanaugh Support - WSJ - "Joel Kaplan, head of global policy, appeared at the Supreme Court nominee’s Senate hearing"

So when right-wingers talk about left-wingers as fragile snowflakes, they describe themselves. They dismiss everything outside their media bubble as "left-wing bias".

Why you gotta be like that? A terrorist can dream, after all...

Considering that 150 of these 200 are actually FBI agents.

Now it turns out these goobers were planning to kill cops. Why? False flag operation? Stir up the cops to get rougher with BLM members and protesters?

Meanwhile Orangutan Barr swears at a hearing he knew nothing about this operation from the FBI to stop the murder of Gretchen Whitmire. Kind of wonder why Barr doesn't bother to find out from the FBI and other experts what operations are ongoing against right wing terrorism threats. Thank FSM he will be out when Biden is elected.

What's your source for this being a right wing militia? Does the group have a name, I wonder?

EDIT: Their ideology seems to be rather confusing.
