...instructors at Stafford County Middle School forced the student to sit alone in the gym because they could not decide which bathroom or locker room to send her.

The other students in her class, following protocol, sheltered in the nearest bathroom or locker room to simulate where they would shelter if an active shooter attacked the school.

“The student was forced to watch the adults charged with her care, debate the safest place (for the other students) to have her shelter,” Equality Stafford claimed. “During this debate, she was instructed to sit in the gym with a teacher until the drill was complete, away from her peers and identified as different.”

The student was eventually told to sit in the locker room hallway, away from other students, for the remainder of the drill.

It's not enough that we have to put our children through "active shooter drills" because the GOP has their heads stuck so far up the NRA's ass they are tasting tonsils...

Now school personnel are finding ways to "other" certain students at the same time?

If there was a shooter, why would it make a difference what group any child is with, as long as the child is somewhere safe? Really, this story, if accurate, is an incredible indictment of that school personnel .

Indeed.

Children aren't allowed to shelter in the nearest secure area but must proceed to the one assigned to them based on their gender? That's insane.

If they are going to use gender based criteria, then instead of bothering their limited minds with trying to solve the situation, they should simply have the student pick for themselves which to go to - BTW what bathroom does this student use in normal daily circumstances?
Of course, the crux of the matter is really prejudice with the claim about the safety of the other students from that student (and not from a hypothetical shooter) being the main issue for them.

I know South Park already did an episode on school shootings, but I can just imagine...

Seeing a gym full of adults debating where to send the kid. Meanwhile, a shooter enters the gym and ... terrible ...

Bottom line for me is that if some boys ran with the larger group of girls and some girls ran with the larger group of boys, because you know, EVERYONE'S LIFE WAS IN DANGER, would it really matter which bathroom they ended up in?

I mean, if you are in an active shooter scenario and you hide under a teacher's desk, do you get in trouble because there's a no hiding under teachers' desks policy at the school in the normal part of the day? Sheesh... priorities people:
1. Survive.
2. Other stuff.

So, in the event of a shooter entering the school, everybody is supposed to go to a locker room as opposed to ... closing the door of the room that they're already in and pushing some desks in front of it or jumping into whichever room is the closest to them or something?

What happens if a boy goes into the girls' locker room when someone comes in with a gun? Does he have to leave and wander through the hallways dodging bullets in order to get to the correct locker room or is he allowed to stay? If he's allowed to stay, then the part of the drill where everybody splits up and goes to designated rooms doesn't reflect reality and makes the drill pointless.

By the sounds of things, the fact that the people who put this drill together ended up standing around with their thumbs up their asses trying to figure out what to do with the transgendered kid is a natural extension of the idiocy and incompetence prevalent in the entire rest of the plan they came up with.

Not to mention that it isn't that hard to make a small explosive and put them in one or more of the gathering places, especially if they are designated an compulsory. It's ERU bad to have designated gathering points in the event of an attack. Also, it strikes me as possible to plan for and blockade routes to and from said gathering points. 0/10 strategic value.

Also, when everyone is segregated, it makes it much easier for a shooter to target specific groups. For instance, if some incel wants to strike back at the femistocracy which was preventing him from getting a girlfriend (cheerleader type girlfriend, of course, not some fattie), then having all the girls in one preset room makes it easier for him to target them and not risk hitting one of his fellow brothers and accidentally give him some disfiguring scar which could make the feminazis team up against that guy as well.

Either way, sounds like a recipe for a LOT of dead kids. And, apparently, a recipe for one very isolated girl just trying to live their life and survive highschool

Ya, regardless of anything else, they have grotesquely humiliated and caused severe emotional damage to this child. They are sickening and pathetic excuses for human beings.

Having these totally ineffective drills in the first place is a really weird concept, when this same funding could be going towards helping kids who may be prone to becoming school shooters not become school shooters. These troubled kids don't pop out of thin air. There are usually plenty of issues adding up in their minds before they crack.

I work on a military installation.

They treat active shooter drills exactly the same as weather related natural disasters. Everyone goes into the 'Shelter-in-Place' room and waits there.....

I used to teach self defense techniques, and this is the opposite of what you should do to minimize damage.

Mainly because the point wasn't to keep kids from being shot. Instead, the point was to placate parents and board members that the school was doing something about a hot button issue. AKA Security Theater

What funding?
It's done during school hours.
Teacher pay doesn't change, kids don't get paid, no materials are purchased...

It is taking time away from learning. Resources are used.

But it doesn't directly affect the budget, or actually do anything.

In the US, that's mission accomplished, sadly.

I'm hesitant to believe the story as it would indicate a level of ridiculous indifference towards the child that I'm not willing to accept exists in the US. Granted, if I was the transgendered student in that situation and a gunmen entered the gym, I'd likely point them towards the direction of where the School administration was cowering.

Meanwhile, we saw in Texas that one mass shooting was prevented due to quick action taken by staff at the elementary school, keeping the shooter outside of the school. But whatev's. Mr. Contrary Opinion must be heard.

Seriously, is it impossible to due both? And how much "funding" goes into a drill? About $0 I think.

I think the faculty strategy was to have the students shelter in the restrooms and call out “ocupado” or “ocupada” should the shooter attempt to enter and for the transgender student to recite Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Perhaps drills are a good thing; this drill was nothing but security theater, on top of isolating a girl already likely to have felt isolated.

WT actual F indeed!
I just wrote a three-page treatise for laypersons on keeping your cool in an Active Shooter incident. We supplied Parkland with trauma kits and my marketing mgr just returned from a press conference with the School Principle, the first RTF person to enter the school during the massacre, the mayor and others... I am sorely tempted to send that article around, but don't want to upset them any more than they already are. But WTF???
