Morocco joins other Arab nations agreeing to normalize Israel ties | Reuters

Israel and Morocco agreed on Thursday to normalize relations in a deal brokered with U.S. help, making Morocco the fourth Arab country to set aside hostilities with Israel in the past four months.

It joins the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan in beginning to forge deals with Israel, driven in part by U.S.-led efforts to present a united front against Iran and roll back Tehran’s regional influence.

In a departure from longstanding U.S. policy, President Donald Trump agreed as part of the deal to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara, a desert region where a decades-old territorial dispute has pitted Morocco against the Algeria-backed Polisario Front, a breakaway movement that seeks to establish an independent state in the territory.

I've found  Political status of Western Sahara and also  International recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic - the SADR is the Polisario Front's regime.

The status of Western Sahara is more complicated than that. That page has a map with nations colored for these positions:

• Recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, with the option of its autonomy
• Recognition of Western Sahara's "self-determination", either as an autonomous province of Morocco or as an independent nation
• Recognition of Western Sahara's independence under the rule of the Polisario Front

Most Western nations endorse the middle position, endorsing neither Morocco near the Polisario Front as sovereign. When they take sides, it's for Morocco. Third Worlders are mostly split between pro-Morocco and pro-Polisario positions, with some of them taking neither side.

Well, Kerry was trying to fight for a Israel and Palestinian peace. He knows then and knows now that the growing normalization between Israel and the arab states further weakens the Palestinian positions, further dooming a chance of a settlement.

He was colossally wrong. Consider also the Serbia-Kosovo peace deal, and the world is a more peaceful place that incompetent people like him were not in charge over the last three-plus years. Now for the next four years, Jebus help us.
