Yes, woke is a joke, and by using the word one joins the ranks of Trump, DeSantis, Greene, et al. Using woke to disparage someone by extension signals your disgust with protests for social justice and -- god forbid -- identity politics. But look how much the Repubs communicate with the word, and how much common identity is asserted.
The anti-MAGA side needs its own woke to describe The Way of Trump. It needs to be a short, pithy word, plucked from common usage. I'm for four-letter length, and for an aptness that hits the ear on the first take. It should also be chosen for its irritability level for the side you're labeling. 'Woke' has the ring of sarcasm coming from the MAGAts. "You're so very woke and aware, aren't you? How adorable." It also helps to choose a word that the other side has been using, even if it has not been a prominent word. ("Stay woke" was a phrase of black solidarity that may date back 90 years or so.) Perhaps a word Trump uses on the rally circuit.

Any ideas?

I nominate SHIT.

Ideologyhunter, I feel like you don't understand this word. "Woke" has an air of sarcasm coming from regressive politicians because it IS sarcastic. "Woke", "Liberal", "Feminist", "Social Justice", and "Politically Correct" (etc.) are all a slurs reserved for their political enemies, not because they are cleverly insulting, but because their tribe has designated these concepts as the "other" and therefore vile. American "conservatives" adopted "Woke" as a slur not because it is clever or nasty, but because they needed to defuse it's power at highlighting the deficiencies of their own ideologies.

'Woke' is a word describing a personal state of heightened social and political consciousness or awareness. It has a history dating back to the 1930's in African American culture in the US. It was from it's beginning delineating a distinction between people who are aware of the mechanisms and extent of social and political oppression for minorities in society and those who aren't. Those who aren't "woke" are asleep, ignorant, and therefore vulnerable and weak.

I recommend not retreating from "woke" or even finding a new word to retaliate with. If you want a derisive word that describes fools who deliberately ignore reality to revel in their sleepy ignorance then use "woke" as it was intended. It is already a cutting word against them, which is why they were forced to appropriate it for their own use. So I say if you want a word to compete with dumbshits using "woke" as an insult, just keep using woke as it was intended but with extra condescension and derision applied liberally.

Besides, it is futile to pick out a new word to attack them with. If it ever catches on, they will just re-appropriate that word as "other" and "vile" too. And they will use your new word just as they abuse the words "liberal" and "woke" now.

Being annoyed with stupid woke shit is hardly just the domain of Trump, DeSantis, Marjorie Taylor Greene, etc. There is a wide swath of the population who are fed up with it. We call them NORMAL people. Take Bill Maher for example. He is both virulently anti-woke and anti-Trump:

“Fascist.” More than four letters, admittedly.

I’m anti-woke myself. It’s a stupid word for aware, and almost universally mis-applied.

Good point. So when people are shiting on Star Wars for having a female lead, or Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange 2, The Marvrls, etc... it is okay because Bill Maher is anti-woke.

You got all that from my post? Good job, I guess.

I can't speak for Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange 2 or "The Marvls" (whatever that is) but Star Wars (the original trilogy) had a female lead that I don't recall anyone having a problem with. In fact, she has an important and prominent role in the movies and is quite beloved by fans (men, women and trans). But I assume you talking about Rey. I didn't care much for the sequel, but wasn't her main problem was that she was just a poorly written character and mostly a Mary Sue?

These anti-woke people still can never define what wokeness is. But I do know they consider showing the slightest bit of empathy to others to be "woke", which tells me all I need to know about them. Oh and, Bill Maher isn't a "normal person". He's a rich guy who has a TV show.

Right wingers have long tried to equate sensitivity with hypersensitivity.

Plus it is woke to be anti-fascist, but I guess if you're anti-woke you're pro-fascist then. 👀

And it is woke to be anti-racist and anti-misogynist, so I guess you're pro both of those too if you're anti-woke.
