A surprising move.

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Neymar from Barcelona after triggering his £198m (€222m) release clause, completing the most expensive transfer in football history.

It has been reported he will earn about 500k Euros(?) a week ! I think he's a very good player but I don't think he is worth that sort of money.

That's a lot of money. But then again, PSG is owned by Qataris and they don't know what to do with all their cash, so they might as well spend it to release Neymar from Barca.

In pure sports terms, there is no way Neymar is worth all that money. Being that there are 11 men on the pitch, each individual is less crucial than in basketball, where you have only 5. I suspect the most value they hope to extract from Neymar is based on publicity.

Note also the Qatari connection. They are hosting the 2022 World Cup and need to establish football credibility, as much as it is possible for a postage stamp desert kingdom.

If Neymar is the catalyst to catapult PSG into the Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Man. U echelon of elite teams, he is a bargain.
