No Hymen, No Diamond

To be fair, virgins are probably the only women these guys would have a chance to con into marrying them.

I think TalkFreeThought can come up with a better trolling (or is it serious?!?) hashtag than that.

The best troll I have seen so far is Godfrey Elfwick. I think he closed his account and reopened another one. Too bad. He did #wrongskin after Rachel Dolezal.

I think that right-wing trolls are closer to being confused for Poe's Law than left-wing in general.

I like the way they claim that it's their choice that they're not marrying these women as opposed to it being the choice of all the women they meet.

Yeah, that was on my list of traits or qualities my wife had to possess before I proposed.

I mean, there was a sense of humor, intelligence, self-reliance, a history of scifi fandom, willingness to compromise. Some of which was more important than others.

I think 'human' was right up there in the top five and it wasn't negotiable. I don't think wanting a human wife makes me misogynistic, though.

The Cult of the Virgin and Virginity fetish is as old as fences. It once was a matter of property rights.

These days, there's still an element of possessiveness and territoriality, but the real core of it is fear of being judged and found wanting. No one worries about the bar being too high, when they put the bar where they want it.

More fear. Don't people get tired of being afraid?

We've got the best of all worlds. Experienced women(who may teach you a thing or two), and you still can know who your children are. As for straying, how is prior experience any indicator?

So stupid. Not all women/girls even HAVE hymens. Not to mention they are often and easily broken in childhood. It has NO bearing on if a woman is a virgin.

Furthermore, if the issue is whether or not your prospective bride has been 'defiled' by another man, you have to realize that not every bodily orifice has a hymen or equivalent.

Is there any reasoning behind this doctrine? Is this doctrine of virginity explained anywhere?

It's the old tennis shoe analogy. Do you want to wear a shoe that's been on dozens of different feet, poorly cared for, and worn on the edges, or a fresh pair of Chucki Taylors, straight out of the box?

People don't wear. Sex does not cause physical degradation.
People are not like used cars.

I prefer to think of it the way I think of surgeons

Do I want the one who has done the surgery many times and knows what she's doing or do I want the kid fresh outta med school who has never done it before?

If you quit being afraid of stupid, random, trivial stuff, then you might actually have to focus on the important stuff to be afraid of: Dying before you've learned to live your life well.

Plus, what was said up thread about fear of being judged and found wanting.

"I will not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Like a surgeon, cutting for the very first time! [stolen from Weird Al]

I've heard of various food based analogies used in abstinence only classes. Kids would be told to chew up food and spit in in a cup of water and compare to a clean cup and stuff like that.

Some guys tell me that having children certainly decreases the tightness of a vagina.

Poorly cared for would matter to me. Vaginas don't wear out, though--prior users aren't an issue. I would consider a woman who slept with trash as unsuitable but I don't care how many prior lovers she might have had.
