Well, those can break your bones. WW IV sounds dangerous.

North Korea has used strong rhetoric in the past. There have been incidents, sinkings, etc... but the general status quo has remained. The US military is deployed along the DMZ so the brass in the military have to be aware of the loss of life that'll come immediately, if there is an attack ordered by the US. Meanwhile Seoul will be leveled. And all of this is conventional warfare. Much like we can level a good portion of North Korea via a couple subs with conventional weapons, they also don't need nukes to cause significant damage in South Korea.

So we are left with the simple only go to option... not much of anything other than cyber efforts to keep any potential missiles from leaving the silos in North Korea.

Yeah, they've got their own little mini-Trump. No telling what he might do.

Looks N.Korea are threatening a first strike if provoked. Putting aside the likelihood that they lack the capability, Kim the Younger has something he's trying to prove and this could boil over quickly.

How do you think the current admin will handle this? And where'd all the WW3 predictors run off to?

It's fucking scary. Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un are *exactly* they personality types to initiate the ultimate Pyrrhic confrontation.

The Trumptardians are screaming for this war to happen. Of course, none of them have to actually go. They don't understand the on the ground carnage that's going to take place. Like someone else said, Seoul will get flattened. There's also the small matter that NK could conceivably launch a nuke at SK, Japan, or even more likely, one on the battlefield. In either of those three instances, longstanding U.S. military doctrine is to respond not just in kind, but with X times the force.

Now, say we nuke Pyongyang. How far is that from the Chinese border? I'll speculate and say that it's the distance from the southernmost section of California to Ensenada in Mexico (about 86 miles). So how would 'Merica feel if for example, Putin dropped a nuke on Ensenada? There isn't big enough hypothetical diaper to contain the mammoth sized shit America would explode out of its collective ass over that. But China's gonna be all, "Hey, it's cool yo." Right.

Putting aside the nuke thing for a moment, the conventional war would be like something that hasn't happened since the first Korean war. Assuming the NK military doesn't fold up like the Iraqis did in the first Gulf War, there will be tens of thousands of American soldiers dead. The logistics of having to reinforce them would come at an enormous cost.

Of course, this doesn't take into account the question of what in the fucking world does South Korea think of all this? Sure, we need to teach the little fat kid in North Korea a lesson, but maybe we should think about the welfare of the nation that a good portion of this war is going to happen on. But conservatives don't really think of Asians, Arabs, or any non-white individual outside of the U.S. as living, breathing humans. After all, the little fat kid's been disrespecting us and for that he needs to pay.

The only solid counterargument to be made here is that the fat kid would still be a joke if he didn't have nukes. But he does. And he's threatened to nuke SK, Japan, and the U.S. And no one wants to be sitting in the White House if that happens when it could've been prevented. And any sane person certainly doesn't want Trump there if/when it happens.

Let's face it though, diplomacy hasn't worked because of China's titty-mama role in all of this. Rather than replace the NK regime with a sane one, they support it. And it's not like this NK regime is all that different from the the two that came before it. It's just as weird, corrupt, and belligerent, except now it has nukes.

Unfortunately, we don't have the brainpower at the levels of government that are needed to fix this.

If I were the chinese, I'd probably recognize that it is in my best interest to ensure that no nukes are launched by my puppet regime, and that if any are, then it is my immediate goal to declare war on said puppet and concede any gains to SK and the US in order to de-escalate the situation as quickly as possible.

I can't speak for them of course but I would say the Chinese probably don't want a nuclear war on their doorstep more than we don't.

But North Korea, while having a fission bomb, isn't exactly in a position to attack much of anything, other than via conventional means. They don't have missiles, nor likely nuclear warheads yet.

And as the post above notes, war isn't exactly easy to start. Sure, you can bomb someone, but to fight a war? You need lots of troops and logistical support.

Let's have a little reminder about what the stakes are on the Korean peninsula.

I'm much more afraid of North Korean artillery, although nukes certainly make things worse. Whether or not they have the capability of launching a nuke at Japan or America is beside the point.

Around half of the population of South Korea is in or around the city of Seoul, which is near the border. North Korea has a crap load of artillery and conventional missiles pointed at Seoul. If any hostilities break out, North Korea's opening move will be to cut the population of South Korea in half in a matter of hours.

Those Trumptards who are encouraging Trump to rattle his saber at North Korea have no regard for human life, and should be regarded as moral cripples incapable of functioning in civilized society.

We already reached that conclusion a while ago.

They must be running short on food again. They saber-rattle to get food aid.

So it's a win-win; Either El Cheato or that sawed-off little punk despot starts shooting, NK gets food and Cheato gets a ratings bump. What could be better? South Korea is a little over populated anyhow...

North Korea gets food if they don't shot, but threaten that they would. Cheato will have 1 to 10 million dead South Koreans on his hands.

Might actually be coal now. There is little left to deprive North Korea of.

Coal is the one thing they have in surplus, especially after China stopped taking imports from NK. But the Chinese understand how tenuous the position is with Trump and Kim both being incapable of their roles http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-39600426
