Over 7,000 Pastors Admit They Don’t Follow Jesus

This is from Patheos, not the Friendly Atheist subsection. And of course the other true-xtians are going batshit.....

Over 4,400 pastors signed John MacArthur’s “Anti-Social Justice Proclamation” a few weeks ago. Over 7,000 have now added their names to that statement, making it crystal clear that they do not follow Jesus in any way, shape or form.


One of the most troubling statements they all agreed to was this:


“We emphatically deny that lectures on social issues (or activism aimed at reshaping the wider culture) are as vital to the life and health of the church as the preaching of the gospel and the exposition of Scripture.”


If that isn’t sad, I don’t know what is.


Not only is it disappointing to read the news that 7,000 Christian Pastors don’t follow Jesus, it’s even more disappointing to find out that none of them are ashamed to admit it in public.

Just sounds like 7000 xtians are slightly less dishonest than the rest.

It's their very insistence on using legislation to force others to live by their beliefs within our culture that has caused the hemorrhaging of members, power and money that we see today. Instead of facing this reality, they blame secularism, homosexuality, race, and women for their issues, which only exacerbates their problem. Now, they have all but become a safe haven for bigots.

That is one definition of religion. They all teach that theirs is the only true one, and all the others are bad/sinful/pagan, and their members are damned...or even deserving of violence and death. Bigotry is ingrained in the very fabric of religions.

There have always been Christians lining up to spit on Jesus' grave. Like an abusive teenager with a girlfriend who deserves better, they "love" him for his body, not his mind.

ffrf has an outreach group to support pastors who have lost their faith entirely but have yet to transition out of the church (or have transitioned out but need some guidance in career planning.) I realize the OP is about hypocritical pastors who don't care a fig about Jesus' teachings about helping the sick, the poor, the imprisoned, etc. I am more intrigued by those pastors who have read enough Bible and apologetics to realize that it's all irrational. It's not all that rare. ...That's my little sideline; back to the contention.

And "Jesus" can be whatever you want it to be, say whatever, do whatever, etc. One is free to invent whatever type Jesus they want, historical, mythical, allegorical, it doesn't really matter.

This is highly misleading and built on the false premise that Christianity makes people more moral.

Those 7000 pastors are correctly following the teachings of the Bible by being evil. After all, the Bible contains instructions on the right and wrong way to beat your slaves to death. Surely you don't expect moral good to come of following the Bible, do you?

Accusing evil Christians of being "fake Christians" (or rejecting Christ in this case) is just the usual  no true Scotsman fallacy we've come to expect from Christian apologists on matters of morality. The evil ones are the real Chrisitans. The morally good Christians are the ones that have rejected the teachings of the Bible.

ETA: But given that one of the cornerstones of being an xtian is a requirement for following the babble...the paradox is hard to escape.
