Well, let's be honest, using violence to convert people has a long, long tradition in Christianity.
And according to the Pope, it doesn't even need to be an attempt at conversion. If your comments offend, you should just expect a violent response. Frank and this pastor seem to agree....

Well sure. That's kind of the history I'm referring to.

If you said something that the Catholic or Protestant leaders disagreed with, then you "offended" them, and they generally responded by setting you on fire. Slowly. It's completely natural that the leader of the Catholic church would think that murder is an appropriate response to saying something a religious leader doesn't agree with, and it's perfectly natural that certain types of protestants would have the same reaction.

Weird trivia: Eastern Orthodox Christians did not consider heresy an executable offense, so you can't make generalizations about Christianity as a whole when it comes to this stuff.
