Watched a show on this. A hunter hired an Inuit guide to hunt a polar bear. He shot what he thought was a polar bear. Turned out to be a polar grizzly hybrid. The Canadian govt tried to charge him with violating his hunting license until DNA showd what it was.
It shed some light on evolution. Diverging groups within a species can mate down the road producing a new species. The claws were a blend of polar and grizzly. The hybrid lived for an estimated 5 years.
Male grizzlies are known to drift north looking for mates and food.
What was interesting is that the larger polar bears seem to have an innate fear of grizzlies. When they meet polar bears run away.
