Proposed California "ethnic studies" curriculum to teach that capitalism is oppressive ...

Yeah, who'd want access to all that tax money. For a state run so poorly, they seem to be rich in all sorts of things like technology advancement, agriculture, and ground shaking.

Also oil, precious metals, and a sizeable military. Yeah, they're not going to let us secede. It's a nice pipe dream though.

California has oil in the ground, but it's really not helpful or valuable there. It has for the most part completely missed out on the US oil production boom of the last 10+ years due to politics above-ground.

8% of the nation's oil production each year. We've destroyed entire nations for less. Also, you've no idea what you're talking about if you think production has somehow stopped or even slowed. Trump and his cronies are laying utter waste to the Kern Valley as we speak.

It's way OT, but is that oil going somewhere soon? This is what I never understood about the "drill baby drill" folks. Shouldn't saving your non-renewable natural resources for a proverbial "rainy day" be considered a good thing? That oil will always be there if you need it, but until then, why not use up someone else's? If you really want to make money, you don't sell out during a supply glut, anyway. You sell out when there is a supply drought.

We do in theory have a legal obligation to keep some of it in the ground, which is presumably what dismal objects to. But the Trump era has been an era of loopholes and deregulation across many quarters, and the oil and gas lobby is largely acting at will now. We will have no future to worry about fueling if this sort of thing continues.

And it's not OT, the OP is about attacking California. The Trump octopus is doing this by many tendrils.

Here's a fun little app that will show you the relative importance of CA in the US oil supply over the last several decades.

I'm going to say it supports my point rather well.

California Wants to Teach Your Kids That Capitalism Is Racist

WSJ said:
Begin with economics. Capitalism is described as a “form of power and oppression,” alongside “patriarchy,” “racism,” “white supremacy” and “ableism.” Capitalism and capitalists appear as villains several times in the document.
[...]
Teachers are encouraged to cite the biographies of “potentially significant figures” such as Angela Davis, Frantz Fanon and Bobby Seale. Convicted cop-killers Mumia Abu-Jamal and Assata Shakur are also on the list. Students are taught that the life of George Jackson matters “now more than ever.” Jackson, while in prison, became “a revolutionary warrior for Black liberation and prison reform.” The Latino section’s people of significance include Puerto Rican nationalists Oscar López Rivera, a member of a paramilitary group that carried out more than 130 bomb attacks, and Lolita Lebrón, who was convicted of attempted murder in a group assault that wounded five congressmen.

The rest of the curriculum is just as bad. For example
WSJ said:
The curriculum is entirely wrongheaded when it comes to critical thinking. Critical thinking is described not as reasoning through logic and consideration of evidence but rather a vague deconstruction of power relationships so that one can “speak out on social issues.” Thinking critically “requires individuals to evaluate phenomenon [sic] through the lens of systems, the rules within those systems, who wield power within systems and the impact of that power on the relationships between people existing within systems.”

If California won't Calexit voluntarily, can we just vote to expel them from the union?

If they had applied their definition of critical thinking to their denunciation of capitalism they would have been closer to the truth. The problem is not with capitalism as a system but with the current rules in our capitalistic economy and with those who yield the power in it. Our capitalistic economy is not working for the vast majority of Americans, obviously, but there is no reason to believe that we have to change our economic system from capitalism to some other system to make it work for more people in the US.

The rest of it is the current left's obsession with fighting the battles of the 1960s. As I have said many times, they are fighting a racial and an anti-war skirmish and are losing the much bigger class war against the poor and the middle class.

California doing this is disgusting. I never want leftists to question us again when we bring up the fact that the education system is a leftist propaganda machine. The left has been running the country for decades and the right is getting sick and tired of it.

They never mention Mao, Stalin, or Pol Pot in schools. Why? Because it would kill their propaganda if kids found out that the leftists are responsible for more deaths than all the Nazi's ever were. The left has to be portrayed as beautiful angels and the right must be portrayed as psychotic killers.

Will they mention in this class that capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system in the world? Nope, they won't. But, they will say how evil and disgusting it is. Funny how you never hear these people say stuff like, "Man I hate capitalism and America. I'm moving to Botswana!"

I've seen leftist videos on youtube where people talk about the evils of capitalism while they are eating a Big Mac and fries while making money off youtube.

I believe you'll find that Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot are all well-covered in the California Common Core history curriculum. And are these elements are mandatory for all students to learn in their history classes, unlike this model curriculum that only advises voluntary programs in ethnic studies that few schools will actually create.

I wonder why the standard patriotic pro-US propaganda is required, and educating about non-white histories is considered an controversial and optional aside.... sure, the left are fascists.

Reality has a liberal bias. Cry about it if you don't like it, but don't expect people to stop learning or teaching about reality.

Capitalism is oppressive.

Capitalism is predicated on the idea that initial investment of resources drives continued extraction of labor value even absent a continued contribution of labor. That is, on its very face, oppressive to those who contribute the labor. And since capitalism also assumes the use of government guns to enforce this extraction, it is oppression at gunpoint, particularly with regards to industries and investments that have a high barrier to entry.

It is a plain fact and while you can complain all you like, you won't change the fundamental nature of reality in which capitalism allows investors to unfairly extract value from labor.

Capitalism says that anyone can become Bill Gates. If you don't like your low-paying job you acquire more skills and get a better job. If you don't want to put in the time, effort, and hard work, then you will be stuck in a low paying job while you scream at the system. The system didn't force you to work at McDonald's anymore than the system forced Bill Gates to start Microsoft.

Supply and demand, my friends. Low-skilled jobs pay low wages because any human being can do the job. High-skilled jobs offer more money because less people are able to do those jobs.

We shouldn't be thinking of coming up with ways to give more money to the lazy people. We should be thinking of ways on how to push those lazy people toward something better instead.

Can't you see that Hitler is the one who people compare everyone with? It's always, "Stop being a Hitler!" or "Stop being a Nazi!" How come it's never, "Stop being a Pol Pot!" or "Stop being a Chairman Mao!"

Hitler murdered the least out of all those people and yet HIS NAME is always the one that comes up when you want to insult someone. I would say that's pretty damn good leftist propaganda, isn't it?

You want lots 0f things.
We are still waiting for you to define culture, or quote Jesus on SSM, or find that study on how open mindec liberal women are....

Such as, can you find ONE single youtuber eating ANYTHING from McDonald's while criticizing capitalism?
You have zero credibility, and some hard-on for McD's dodgers....

So... you're only pretending to talk about curriculum.

Like the OP.

Well, if you aren't going to play an active role in supporting education, you can't complain if your so-called enemies fill the gap.

So, you're not-even-wrong yet again. To even be wrong on this you would have to understand it on at least some level which I find highly doubtful.

First, when your work requires human hands, the bare minimum cost that is ethical in any way is the cost to support a human being who is necessary for the work. If the work isn't worth paying someone at least that much, you soak the cosr to have someone do the work, or you do it your own damn self.

Second, it's funny you talk about complaining about low paying work as a function of skill. I am a skilled worker. I seriously doubt, for instance, that you could design an I/O system for an A320 simulator, or, well any of the other shit I've designed in my lifetime, from virtual genital roleplay platforms for VR environments to aircraft simulation platforms, to game automation modifications. I highly doubt you could dive into a rat's nest of code and trace a thread of math and function to isolate a single variable to change that turns a non-functional mess into a stable machine. You can't even accomplish that within a simple argument on an internet forum.

It isn't about skill level. I do not find it justified that, if I were to seek funding for building a device, that I would have the value of my own work leeched by an "investment" class. And it wouldn't be justified if, after designing this platform, I forever sat upon the laurels of designing it by parasitising the people who continue to build, improve, and operate the platform just because I had a good idea once upon a time.

There are good people on both sides, right?

This isn't a matter of good people on both sides, but rather questioning the accuracy of the reporting. The WSJ is well on the right. (And paywalled so we can't even see what the article is saying.)

If the article is accurate I will certainly say this is leftist insanity. However, I want to see more before I accept it as true.

I

Hitler started World War II which affected people all over the world and had a direct and obvious program of genocide. Hitler predated Pol Pot and Mao in his infamous killings, and both Pol Pot and Mao were relatlvely local in comparison even if they killed more people. Stalin's famine of Ukraine preceded Hilter's killings, but a famine is both more local in nature and it is not an obvious form of genocide.

Trying to relate the use of Hitler or Nazi as an insult instead of a Communist or Mao to leftists is truly a work of a dedicated ideologue bereft of any historical context. You have truly outdone yourself this time, and that is saying a lot.

I must say, I have been reading posts in these forums for over a decade, and I have never come across such an example of someone seriously proposing something so utterly inane.

Stalin killed about 20 million. Looks like the saying should be "Stop being a Stalin!"

But, leftist propaganda has told us Hitler was the biggest villain in the world history and he's right-wing.

There is no reason for you to double down. I already said you have outdone yourself on this one. In fact, I do not see how you can every top this argument.
