Actress Honor Blackman, who had the, well, honor of being cast as the character with the best name in the history of film (IMO), has died at age 94. Unlike her character, she passed away from unspecified natural causes.

Thanks for the tribute. I liked her, too. Classy actress. But OMG, 94. N-i-n-e-t-y f-o-u-r!?? That's like hearing that Danny Bonaduce is, say, 103 and remembering his Partridge past. Hard (for me) to believe that the math works, but it does...

I've always been sorta shocked that the movie censors of the time allowed that name. That was before movie ratings (G, PG, R, X) were implemented.

Do these things still happen in threes? Just thinking of the other Bond women and the actresses behind each one. Holly Goodhead and Plenty O'Toole, look alive! Octopussy, on guard! Not to mention the Austin Powers Trifecta: Alotta Fagina and the two Fooks, Yu and Mi.

She was in Doctor Who and the Avengers as well. :(

The Avengers was a fun show. I mostly saw the Diana Rigg episodes, but caught some of Blackman's and Linda Thorson's.

Don't forget about Suzi and Teri Yaki in What's Up Tiger Lily.

Aw, man. We JUST finished assembling the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger.

Little known fact is the first Bond car in Dr. No is a Sunbeam Alpine. Cool little car, although not as cool as the Sunbeam Tiger, the precursor to Carroll Shelby's AC Cobra.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have NEVER watched a BOND film. I would really like to, however, so looking for a good place to start. Any suggestions?

You might want to start with the first one (Dr. No), and then check out one from each of the other actors who've played Bond.

Of the early ones, From Russia with Love -- this is way before they got 'cute' with the plots. Of the middle ones, For Your Eyes Only. Of the recent ones, Casino Royale (2006, not, by any stretch, 1967.)

Never cared for the Pierce Brosnan Bond films. They always seemed a little campy to me, lacking the grit of Sean Connery or Daniel Craig.

In the books, Bond regularly gets the holy shit kicked out of him. Connery took hits, Craig bled, Dalton at least acknowledged that hurt was possible... i never really believed Moore or Brosnan were going to grt their hair mussed.

Craig’s Bond had his nuts crushed. For Queen and country, and all that rot.

My parents had all the Ian Flemming Bond paperbacks, published by Signet (at 60 cents!). I read many of them. The Bond character in the books is, I believe, closest to that portrayed by Daniel Craig. The ball busting scene in Casino Royale is right from the book. Several of original Bond stories are all about that he is sent on a mission to kill. The whole 'licensed to kill' which was a throw away in all of the movies until the first Daniel Craig one (that opens with his first assignment to kill).

Ranking the Bonds for me: Daniel Craig, Sean Connery, and then George Lazenby. NONE of the other actors make the list.

I agree with that list. Lazenby did a good job with his one and only opportunity.

But since this thread is about Honor Blackman, let's rank the Bond women . . . .

I'd would put Honor right at the top of the list.
