It portrays white people as the problem regarding homicide when actual FBI crime data paints a very different picture (at least if you are smart enough to adjust for relative population sizes).

I beg to differ. It appears to me that it's not claiming white people are THE problem for all homicides. But by referring to 'stand my ground' it's specifying a certain group of homicides, and the way certain groups appear to believe they have a right to shoot other people, especially if the shooter is white and the thug is not.

Which many people see as _A_ problem, but i don't see where the cartoon could possibly be read as saying whites are the only problem in homicides.

I think there's a big interpretation problem here.

First, no one in the comic is making a joke about ALL White men or even MOST White men.

The Three White Men seems to refer to The Three Wise Men. The other two might be people on camels which is possibly a reference to Muslims, but then maybe it is difficult to tell if these are horses or camels. That might also be a border in front of them.

So this may be in reference not only to stopping Syrian refugees, but specifically to groups of people who are shooting others at the border and who are now showing up at mosques with guns.

Now, if it is Syrian refugees, it might be even be in reference to CHRISTIAN Syrian refugees.

They also added in the issue of Stand Your Ground...so this is a fairly complex satirical political cartoon.

Maybe this is about this current issue, too:

Here's another photo of the three percenters which is what they call themselves:
CBImages

The above is from where they showed up surrounding a mosque while carrying arms and protesting.

The "joke" about 3 white men may be that also the 2 Muslims/or Syrians/or... shot were also White.

By the way, the city where that mosque is in the photo above is guess where?

Irving, Texas--the place where Ahmed went to high school.

As someone who once worked as a cartoonist I have no clear picture of what this cartoon portrays unless he has shot 2 people on the camels and that is speculative without a clear image of the bodies. It got published so it must have meant something to the Editor. While there are no sets of rules as to what to put in a cartoon it would be helpful if there were a little bit more of a punch line.

Timing of the cartoon adds some context. It's meant to come out around Christmas. The Three White Men is a play on The Three Wise Men. It's like a parody. It's a play on the shitstorm gun stuff (probably all of it) in the USA. So, picture people in modern times trying to be 3 Wise Men and one of them actually saying that. I think it's an appeal to Americans' sense of what their Christianity is supposed to mean as Jeebus would have taught it and what the Pope recently said about it. All the gun and xenophobic stuff going on is allegedly counter to that.

...i don't see where the cartoon could possibly be read as saying whites are the only problem in homicides.

Well in order to see that, you have to look at it from the perspective of a person who feels that whites - and more specifically white males - are being victimized by society as a whole. Not just wrongly accused of being part of a history of institutionalized racism, but having to endure crushing bigotry themselves.

Not only that, but as a white male, you're just about guaranteed to be falsely accused of rape by some ultra-politically correct, Gloria Steinem-reading feminazi.

Won't someone think of the poor, oppressed white man for a change?

Maybe it's a statement that Americans (especially white American men) aren't all that wise if they're killing even themselves by supporting the "stand your ground" laws.

Well, since the words STAND YOUR GROUND are actually mentioned and the word HOMICIDE isn't, I think the cartoon is about SYG and not blaming white people for homicide.

Blacks commit 5 times as many homicides than whites. The fact that the cartoon focuses of whites "especially" is what makes it so racist.

You do know SYG is a defense that is open to non-whites, right?

I figure it means American white guys are so paranoid that they'd shoot their companions just for following too close.
And that's not racist?

It's more of a pun than parody and yes, I had noticed the pun. And no, puns do not magically make the cartoon non-racist.

And why is "gun stuff" a white problem?
Now, "white" and "black" cultures have a different take on guns. Whereas the former emphasize 2nd amendment and law abiding gun use, "good guy with a gun" etc., "black" culture emphasizes thug life, gangstas, i.e. using guns specifically to commit violent crimes.

The problem with Jesus and the Bible is that you can find counterpoint for almost any point your opponent finds in it. For example, Jesus admonishes his disciples to be armed whey they go out into the world.
Luke 22:36 NASB said:
And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.
Not about guns per se, since they weren't invented yet, but about personal armaments of the day.

I think you are seeing things in this cartoon that aren't there.

Paranoia or other kinds of misinterpretation do not make it racist.

Why are you arguing about Christianity as if I have a position on it? I was talking about interpretation of the author, not interpretation of Christianity.

It's clearly political and SYG is one of the main political pieces to it.

It in no way says all whites do such and such. It isn't racist.
