Reports of at Least 20 Victims Amid Active Shooting Incident in San Bernardino

 
 
 
Oh for globbing sake! Another mass shooting.

Details are too sketchy to know what exactly has gone down. The current reports are 3 dead, 20 injured in California. Occurred at a Non-Profit that helps people with developmental disabilities.

First couple of potential shooters are former worker or former client. The police say they have 1 to 3 suspects in mind, which would seem to land in the former client camp. But I'll take a wild guess and say it doesn't really matter who did it, but what matters is that it happened... again.

I remember back in the 80s or 90s during some civil war or drug war or something, reporters in Columbia were told that if a mass shooting didn't kill at least ten people, don't even bother submitting the story because it's not news. We need to implement something similar for America. If a Swede kills three people, we can say "WTF? That happened in Sweden? That's unexpected enough to merit special comment". If some crazy American guy kills three people for whatever stupid reason he came up with, we can just call that a Wednesday.

I don't mean to shrug off mass casualties, but America's gotten itself to the point where we can just shrug off mass casualties unless they're massive enough to take special note of.
 
The San Bernardino shooting would be the 355th mass shooting this year, according to a mass shooting tracker maintained by the Guns Are Cool subreddit. The Reddit tracker defines mass shootings as incidents in which four or more people, including the gunman, are killed or injured by gunfire. The Mass Shooting Tracker is different from other shooting databases in that it uses a broader definition of mass shooting — the old FBI definition focused on four or more people killed as part of a single shooting.

It would be also be the second mass shooting just today -- in the early morning hours, one person was killed and three were injured in an incident in Savannah, Georgia.

The police chief just said 14 people dead, another 14 wounded, plus an unknown number of people injured in falls and the scuffle of people trying to leave the area.
 
Shit, if only those developmentally disabled kids were allowed to be armed then this would have never happened. It was a gun free shooting gallery.

The last word I got from the OP link was 14 dead. It is really not too big a stretch to understand this kind of event in San Bernardino. The economy in the inland empire has been on the rocks for at least the last 30 years. That makes for a lot of gangs and a lot of unbalanced very poor people. It also is a hotbed of gun rights people. It really is not a surprise to me...only that it took so long to materialize.
 
Honestly, I'm somewhere between resigned to accept this shit because after Sandy Hook, the NRA ramped up a response about how gun owners were the true victims faster than the first body bags of elementary school children were leaving the scene of the atrocity and mad as all fuck.

I certainly hope that 14 gets a downward push. Meanwhile...

From CNN, "Witnesses told police they saw three men with long guns, a law enforcement source told CNN. The source said the suspects got into a black SUV and drove away."

Reads like a movie script. As usual, more details just lead to more mind baffling questions.

From MSNBC an interesting tidbit. “We often let other groups rent out the space,” she added. “I’m not sure who was renting it out today, but I believe it was a healthcare event.” So it is possible the event that was fired upon wasn't part of the building.

Do those questions really matter, though? Whatever the answer is to why they did it, that answer is going to be crazy and stupid. It also won't give us any information to help prevent the next one because the rationale behind that will be a different kind of crazy and stupid.
 
Black SUV. How long before someone claims it's a government plot?

It sounds like a coordinated premeditated attack on a particular group that wasn't affiliated with the Inland Regional Center. This isn't some sort of mass killing by some loser asshole. Great... America is moving up in the world in ridiculous domestic violence.

And how dumb do you have to be to commit such a crime and trying to flee in a large black SUV?!

Police say "domestic terror". Don't know what that means but it could mean a lot.
 
I suspect White USAians responsible. If it was IS, I suspect they would have stayed until dead. But I'm open to new info.

Well, it is a mass killing by some loser assholes. Whatever their motivation or reasoning was, that doesn't change. If it was a random, spur of the moment killing spree, a targeted murder by people who didn't care about collateral casualties, a step forward in the global jihad aganist the Great Satan, a message to Obama to stop pampering the welfare queens, or any other possible thing, it's still a mass killing by loser assholes.
