Roseanne Reboot

Calling an African American and "ape" or "monkey" is a well-known racial slur that goes back to colonial times in our country.
Yes, I know the history.

Racists know this, and they use it intentionally for that purpose.

The easiest way to blunt the racist use of it is not lose one's shit (like cancel Roseanne and then uncancel it without her) every time such a comparison is made.
Because without moving away from this and other double standards there will always be racial tensions because blacks will be seen as "other" as long as they insist on being treated differently. What we certainly should do is differentiate between an individual being compared to an ape - regardless of his or her race - and a whole group being compared to apes.

It seems to me that Roseanne lost her shit on Twitter and that ABC fired her for violating her contract with behavior that they felt brought shame to the network. Anyone who signs up to work for a major corporation is likely to find such language in their contract. That is why she isn't likely to try to sue them for wrongful termination. Her first amendment rights are still intact, and she is free to express hatred of minorities on Twitter, just like the President does. (Unfortunately, Congress won't be cancelling his employment.)

Bye the way, I think the Democrats/Left do not really want to improve race relations. Without the race issue, >90% of blacks would not vote for Democrats.

You may think what you please about the sincerity of Democratic politicians, Derec, but it seems that you also think that >90% of blacks vote for Democrats because they think Democrats are more likely to improve race relations than Republicans. The fact that members of the KKK, the Nazi Party, and other overtly racist organizations tend to sing praises of our current president suggests that white supremacists seem to agree with >90% of blacks on that score.
