I saw the first two episodes. IRL Roseanne has switched from Green Party to Trump supporter.

The show touched on politics a lot. What does it mean?

Anyone see them? What are your thoughts?

The floor is yours.

Why the New 'Roseanne' Reboot Just Plain Sucks

I found this article to be way too harsh. I agree that the acting needs a little work because some of the actors haven't acted in a while. I am optimistic they will get better. I think that including the trans kid in the storyline does a lot for political awareness. Also, while I agree that the characters' politics were somewhat empty, like stereotypes, they at least were in heavy opposition like a lot of families have to face these days.

Isn't this a Mid Season Replacement?

Probably. I think I read 9 episodes in the season.

How many Episodes did ABC contract for?

I read that it was just approved for a 2nd season.

I'll wait to see the overall ratings for the season.

It had like 18 million viewers. I wasn't one of them because my wife and I watched it on demand later.

Donald Trump phoned Roseanne Barr to congratulate her after the relaunch of her self-titled sitcom drew an estimated 18.4 million viewers.

The US president also wanted to thank the TV star for her support – both the actor and the character she portrays are Trump backers.

But I guess he forgot to count the 200 million illegal aliens watching the show. :P

He called Rosanne Barr to congratulate the ratings and portrayal of Trump supporters? WTF?! I was assuming that was a joke.

I watched the first one. Couldn't bring myself to watch the second.

John Goodman was the only decent part of the show. It was not funny. The political parts were just forced, not natural at all. The writing was atrocious.

There's a meme going around about people should remember when PDJT fails to call the families of fallen soldiers that he had the time to call Rosanne.

I watched both episodes and got a few good laughs. Its basically what it was back in the 90s. Its a milk toast sort of funny but not great sitcom with a laugh track. Its definitely NOT pro-trump propaganda. Its having a laugh at the whole political spectrum, and isn't even primarily about politics.

Why did it make Trump happy, I mean, other than by treating his opposition (sister Jackie) as nonsensical? Btw, I don't completely disagree with you...

Maybe because Roseanne and him go way back. Or maybe because he didn't feel slandered etc. The show was light hearted poking fun at both his supporters and Hillary's.

Are both sides equal?

I have no intention of watching the show, but I did hear an interesting discussion about it yesterday. I don't remember where. Anyway, the idea was that the major networks haven't been giving much attention to the white working class, aka Trump supporters. So, they thought they'd try bringing back Roseanne. So, I suppose that "All in the Family" will be next. Archie Bunker would be so popular among the Trump voters these days. Since the original stars who played Archie and Edith are dead, who do y'all suggest for the next version? :D

Never seen Rosanne. Don't give a runny rat's bottom about it today. I have no patience with Trumpism. To hell with it.

I thought it was pretty fair to both sides, but in today's climate that means it was unfair by not praising ones own side and not thoroughly trashing the other. I liked the original show, this is in a way picking up later.

Nice touch calling it Season 10, as if the final season of the original didn't happen.

I don't know how to feel about it. I liked the Old show well enough (at least until it really jumped the shark when the Conners won the lottery) but I find Rosseane herself obnoxious and very unlikeable. It doesn't help that off show, she continues to perpetuate Trump's fucking nonsense. As far as I'm concerned, we don't need any more Hollywood stars that cannot tell fact from fiction, and that includes Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Roseanne.

I liked that too. I also like how they put both actresses who played "becky" back in the show and had them meet and made fun of it.

And having Dan pick up the manuscript and accuse Roseanne of killing off the most interesting character as well, and Dan saying "I don't know why everyone thinks I'm dead". They make plenty of self-referential jokes.

This goes a bit towards the answer to my question, which is: a Roseanne Reboot? Why?

Archie Bunker would be so popular among the Trump voters these days.
The character might be, but not the show.
The only time Archie wasn't shown as wrong, basically wrong, in the wrong, extremely wrong, was when they were using him to bash Meathead's over-the-top activism. And every season Archie got a little more liberal...

Brian Dennehy.
Marina Sirtis as his English wife, a USO entertainer he met while in the service. Asks questions like 'whatever happened to East Virginia?' and 'Why is it called a 'clutch' when I push it with my foot? Shouldn't I be CLUTCHING something?"

Move the show to somewhere in Texas. Archie works for a company that makes body armor for the military.
He's really excited to hear that his daughter (away to college somewhere in the East) has met and fallen in love with a 3-tour vet of Afghanistan and is bringing him home to meet the family. After talking up his new son's exploits and medals he finally meets him and finds that he's black. Archie doesn't give a shit about skin color, but this vet is angry that his body armor failed in combat which is why he has a prosthetic limb... Hates the military, the military industrial complex, and burned his uniform and medals... Votes Green.
Most of the 1st season humor revolves around the fact that Archie is DEEPLY offended by his son-in-law, but tries desperately to explain to everyone that it's the kid's politics, not racism...
Although sometimes they get a little drunk and bond over common experiences they have with the military. "This one time, Gunny looks at me and says..." Then one of their wives catches then and they start shouting at each other about Hillary.
