Archie Bunker would be so popular among the Trump voters these days.
The character might be, but not the show.
The only time Archie wasn't shown as wrong, basically wrong, in the wrong, extremely wrong, was when they were using him to bash Meathead's over-the-top activism. And every season Archie got a little more liberal...
Since the original stars who played Archie and Edith are dead, who do y'all suggest for the next version?
Brian Dennehy.
Marina Sirtis as his English wife, a USO entertainer he met while in the service. Asks questions like 'whatever happened to East Virginia?' and 'Why is it called a 'clutch' when I push it with my foot? Shouldn't I be CLUTCHING something?"
Move the show to somewhere in Texas. Archie works for a company that makes body armor for the military.
He's really excited to hear that his daughter (away to college somewhere in the East) has met and fallen in love with a 3-tour vet of Afghanistan and is bringing him home to meet the family. After talking up his new son's exploits and medals he finally meets him and finds that he's black. Archie doesn't give a shit about skin color, but this vet is angry that his body armor failed in combat which is why he has a prosthetic limb... Hates the military, the military industrial complex, and burned his uniform and medals... Votes Green.
Most of the 1st season humor revolves around the fact that Archie is DEEPLY offended by his son-in-law, but tries desperately to explain to everyone that it's the kid's politics, not racism...
Although sometimes they get a little drunk and bond over common experiences they have with the military. "This one time, Gunny looks at me and says..." Then one of their wives catches then and they start shouting at each other about Hillary.
