MOSCOW, RUSSIA -- The Russian government has indicated that Donald Trump Jr will be named the Russian Ambassador to the United States. The White House confirmed that the President's son accepted. "The President wanted the US to know he is very proud of his son and his accomplishments."

Some critics have questioned the legal issues with the President's son being a conduit for Russia. The White House brushed those criticisms aside. "Look, the United States has a friend in Donald Trump Jr. We can trust him to work in our nation's best interets."

The President tweeted later in the day, in response to the criticisms. "Hey, it looks like Russia is the one that needs to worry, he is my son. Great job boy!"

Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse was extremely pointed in his criticism, "This reads like something from The Onion!" Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell noted that we needed to proceed with caution before "rushing to judgement". Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan couldn't be found for comment because he was searching for his spine.

That's actually useful. With the questions surrounding him, it was a problem that Junior potentially had access to top secret data but, as Russian Ambassador, he has full clearance to all of the US's classified information so that's one legal land mine the Trump Administration has avoided.

Just to confirm, this is satire, right?

Is diplomatic immunity retroactive? If they did happen to name Junior their Ambassador, is the worst that could be done to him kicking him out of the country or could they still prosecute him for actions prior to his getting the job?

He won't need it. Daddy will pardon him.

If junior got diplomatic immunity, would that save him from the shit storm coming his way?

Nope.
He didn't have immunity at the time he committed treason, so he'd still be culpable.
However, the worst we could do to the designated ambassador is suspend his diplomatic credentials and force him to go back to Russia.
