The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) is the world's largest Eastern Orthodox denomination, but the Ukrainian Church has wanted to break away from it because of Putin's invasion of Ukraine and annexation of Crimea. Well, that's not the only reason. The Kiev Patriarchate has suggested that Putin is possessed by Satan. While that may be true, is that a valid reason for breaking up? After all, Putin is not the Russian Patriarch, but it is true that Moscow Patriarch Kirill is good friends with Putin. OTOH, there is no guarantee that the Ukrainian leader Poroshenko is not also possessed by Satan. AFAIK, the ROC has not gone so far as to make that serious charge, but it may be an option in the future.

So for now the ROC has decided that it will no longer participate in structures chaired by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople because of this matter. The Russian government has expressed a desire for unity, but that could be the work of Satan behind the scenes.
