Abdulrahman Almutairi is a Saudi social-media influencer who criticized Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. If not for the FBI, he says, he might’ve met Jamal Khashoggi’s fate.

A suspected agent of the Saudi government attempted to kidnap a regime critic on American soil, according to the critic and multiple U.S. and foreign sources familiar with the episode. The young Saudi man says the FBI saved him from becoming the next Jamal Khashoggi.

Abdulrahman Almutairi is a 27-year-old comedian and former student at the University of San Diego with a big social-media presence. After Almutairi used social media to criticize the powerful Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman over the October 2018 murder and dismemberment of Washington Post contributor Khashoggi, an unidentified Saudi man accompanied Almutairi’s father on a flight to collect Almutairi against his will and bring him back to Saudi Arabia, according to The Daily Beast’s sources.

We need a regime change in Saudi Arabia. Those people don't deserve to live like this.

All progressives should back regime change in oppressive countries. Otherwise, you're advocating for brutal dictators to stay in charge of innocent people.

You realize you are bucking your idol, Mr. Trump.

All Presidents are in bed with the Saudi's. It's not just a Trump thing.

B-b-but but those poor sand niggers need to learn of the pleasures and joys that await them on the golden shores of democracy.
If only they knew how well they'd be treated here in Murka!

Oh wait - :realitycheck:
Never mind.

Using Half-Life's logic, supporting Trump means you're advocating for brutal dictators to stay in charge of innocent people. However, I can't support regime change change in SA, because once again using Half-life logic, I must then be obligated to volunteer for the ADF. It's such a conundrum to meet the standards of consistency that only apply to leftists it seems.

It's a conundrum for sure. We could just do what Trump did to our other Middle East allies - assure them of our support, get them into a bloody war, then abandon them on the battlefield. Surely their leadership problems would sort themselves out in a situation like that.

The problem with that is that the Saudi regime is, believe it or not, a moderating force for the largely Wahabist populace. A regime change will likely result in something 10x worse, almost akin to the Islamic State. That is very different than Iran, where the population is more liberal than the ayatollahs running the country. There, a regime change would have a chance of producing a favorable outcome. Now, guess which of the two regimes so-called "progressives" like!

The guy is a "social media influencer". Those are people who shill for products and services on Instagram et al in return for money or just getting those products/services for free. Example:

So given his profession, I suspect he and his father set this whole thing up to drive up his Insta views and followers. I guess "Abdulrahman Almuturi" is Arabic for "Jussie Smollett" ...

All the people who say this would never want to move to Saudi Arabia. They would rather stay in America. I wonder why that is.

Who says you have to volunteer?

For example, suppose we got word that China was going to invade the U.S. We send troops to China first to cut them off. Does this mean all anti-war leftists in the U.S. would all of a sudden volunteer to go to China and fight even though they agree with the defense? Of course not.

But the crowds who say, "if you want war, you go fight!" would have to go volunteer to stay consistent. Just because the war would be defensive doesn't mean they should get a pass.

*sigh*

But I could say the same thing about leftists who agreed we should stop Germany, yet they also didn't sign up to fight. You can't give them a pass just because it was defensive. If they want to defend the U.S. from Germany, they should've "taken a seat and joined," right?

Name one.

All of the leftists in America who were not fighting in the war, yet supported it.

This proves my point, yes.

If you are a leftist who screams, "If you want war, you go fight!", then you would have to volunteer to go on the defensive if China was going to invade us. To support the defensive war, but not sign up to go fight would be hypocritical.

Mr. Trump is President now.

And all Presidents are not in bed with the Saudi's. It is not clear that Mr. Carter was. And certainly those Presidents in office before oil was important were not in bed with the Saudis.

Unfortunately, this would probably be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Maybe but in the long run it will be a good thing overall even if KSA becomes a desert in every sense of the word.

Doubtful. Most of the Muslim community (especially in SE Asia) despise Saudi Arabia, but would be pissed if the area become a glass car park. Kinda like how evangelicals are pretty ambivalent towards the Middle East but would be upset if Jerusalem disappeared.

I don;t have to wonder why people who say things like this say them... It's because they are lonely and have forgotten what it is like to have friends and family. So selling your home, quitting your job, leaving your family, and abandoning the known for the completely foreign and unknown is 6 of one and half-a-dozen of another...
It's true what they say... Freedom" is just another word for "nothing left to lose". poor guy.

No, it is about the hypocrisy of people who say "I love diversity!!" and then conservatives say, "OK go move to an Islamic country since you love diversity. See how much they tolerate yo over there."

Liberals are always protesting about how great the Palestinians are (as if they aren't shooting rockets at Israel every day). They won't go move there, though. You guys then claim, "Can you blame them for launching rockets? Israel stole their land!"

OK, so this means you guys would be OK with Native Americans running through the U.S. slaughtering us because we stole their land years ago? Or would that be stupid thinking?
