Skepticism, atheism, and belief as themes in movies

Peter: You're not saying you believe her?
Professor Kirke: What, and you don't?
Susan: Of course not. I mean, logically, it's impossible.

Professor Kirke: What do they teach in schools these days?

"Logic!" said the Professor half to himself. "Why don't they teach logic at these schools? There are only three possibilities. Either your sister is telling lies, or she is mad, or she is telling the truth. You know she doesn't tell lies and it is obvious that she is not mad. For the moment then and unless any further evidence turns up, we must assume that she is telling the truth.”

Wait, what if she was just wrong? Just because someone is saying something which they think is the truth doesn’t mean what they’re saying is accurate. Lots of funky mild in old wardrobes.

Not too much today that I see. Theism-theism does show up in older movies I have been watch on TCM.

I saw a movies Red River. It is set in post war Germany just after the end. Russians are forcibly repatriating artists.scicntists, and dissedents back to Russia who had fled Russia pre war.

An Americam officer who falls in love with a Russian ballerina. She ends up hiding in a convent.

The local area American officer in charge is atheists. The head nun and the officer ending up in a running discourse on random occurrences vs divine providence as they work to keep the girl free. The nun of course believes that things play out to end up freeing the girl due to divine intervention and the atheist thinking chance events.

A good movie.

Lewis' Mere Christianity was a free-to-air radio series.
He was preaching/proselytising.

So, your theory that he shared Dawkins money-making book seller mentality is wrong.

Yadda Yadda Yadda.

I once asked for a copy of Beowulf in a bookstore. The bookseller asked me for the author's name. I wouldn't have been more surprised if she had asked me for the name of Homer's writing coach.

Oh yes, and everyone knows how people who broadcast evangelism aren't in it for the money!

Whatever medium he was peddling his stuff in him, I care not. The principle stands.

Oh yeah? I bet you don't know who wrote Beowulf either, smartass. :rotfl:

Your mentality that Dawkins only cared about making money is wrong and unsupported by anything except your presuppositional bias against atheists.

And when Mere Christianity was turned into a book, how much money did C.S.Lewis make?

(ETA: This site, possibly biased but fact checkable, says when CSL died, his estate was worth less than 40K pounds. Apparently, he gave a lot away.)
