So is Anti-Obama Fever Getting to Clinical Levels

Well, the US Military, you know that thing we pay a fortune to fund every year, is doing a large integrated test in the Southwest. Someone got a hold of a plan or something and started fretting about this totally secret, publicly announced event, and then eventually went on to assume Obama was taking over Texas (because it isn't part of the US or something).

Now these sorts of things typically are out there. One of the main sources for this breaking news was Infowars. We all know how trustworthy and reliable that site is. And those that believe Infowars crap are very limited to the tinfoilers. But this carried much further than it usually does. In fact, it got so much heat on it, the Governor of Texas indicated he would get the National Guard troops to keep an eye on the Special Ops forces (like they'd have a chance), to make certain Texas didn't get taken over and annexed by the US.

That the Texas Governor went public with this, implies a near clinical level of partisan paranoia over Obama (and apparent under-appreciation of the second Amendment?). How much paranoia is too much paranoia, if you are Governor of the second largest state in the nation?

I think this guy from the link summed it up best:

"Your letter pandering to idiots ... has left me livid," former state Rep. Todd Smith wrote Abbott. "I am horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn't have the backbone to stand up to those who do."

How much paranoia is too much paranoia, if you are Governor of the second largest state in the nation?
Wrong question.
How much political capital, or how many votes, can be gained by showing a willingness to use state resources to 'keep an eye' on Federal forces.

I suspect the gov knows none of this conspiracy crap is real, so he can either try to calm the crazies or make them think they've convinced him. So nothing will happen and he can say not that nothing would have happened anyway, but suggest that because of his diligence, no one risked following through with the plan, vote for me. Vote early and vote often.

Here is the issue. You have the paranoia crowd who believe in conspiracy theories. That isn't anything new. What we have here are a bunch of anti-Obama people latching onto this. Finally! The dictator is making his move. These people aren't crazy in the sense that they typically believe in CT's and think W took down the Towers. They hate Obama so much they want to believe this plot is true.

It gets worse in that if the Governor is looking for votes when he should be calming down the people is, in my mind, a crime. Politicians are given a choice every once in a while regarding these ridiculous charges. McCain was confronted with it when a Birther noted Obama being from Kenya and McCain, at a rally, debunked it. This guy didn't. He fed into it. Helping to potential incite "freedom fighter" violence as well.

And they're going to do that no matter who says they're being crazy.

I don't know.
The whole point of a conspiracy theory is to feel special because you've penetrated the conspiracy, outsmarted the people who have fooled 99% of the population and are one of the very few who can save the country (world, white race, state, Christainity).
By putting the Rangers on the job of 'watching' the military, maybe they'll relax the tiniest bit and if they see people skulking around, call the cops instead of shooting?

If the governor dismisses their complaints, the CTs become the central hero in the monster movie. Defending the nation rests squarely on their shoulders alone and they have to become the Scooby Doo heroes: "It's all up to us!" They won't bother to call the cops because the cops are compromised already.

I remember Bill Cosby's routine about monsters in the closet. Mom came in and chased the monsters out, Dad said 'Let 'em eat you up.' To the Tea Partiers little children, Mom's response at least got some people some sleep at night.

When the takeover and annex of Texas doesn't happen now, these idiots will think they saved Texas by "exposing the truth".

Yeah, the nutters are bad enough, but when a governor and Sen. Carnival Cruz channel these nuts, it is pretty disgusting.

Anywho, you are late to the party:

Not late, the OP is about how far some of the right-wing have gone with regards to Obama. They have gone as far as to doctor video tape (or create a new tape) to "prove" Obama was born in Kenya. Very public Birther statements from even the likes of Trump. Now they are saying Obama is finally taking over and becoming a Dictator. We have never seen this level of partisan paranoia and hatred.

And again, that's how they would interpret the non-event anyway, no matter what happened. It's just in the gov's best interest as a politician to try to get some of the credit.

Seriously, telling the nutters that the Texas Rangers can stop the US Military; teling a 3 year old that monsters die if they touch fleece blankets or that teddy bears eat under-bed monsters? Same thing. A lie you hope they'll grow out of, but for now you just want to get through to tomorrow.

Ah, ok that part specifically. Well, I don't think Carnival Cruz is dumb enough to buy this tripe. I suspect he is playing with it towards his own long term plans (which I don't think is the Presidency; maybe future book deals and speaking fees). Bread and Circus for the masses... I have no idea about Texas Governor Abbott. Too bad Cruz's last name wasn't Costello ;)

If the Texas State Guard is deployed, hopefully they will receive carefully worded orders so that they are in effect making sure none of the crazies attempt to interfere with the training exercise.

Geez! This is right up there with Guam tipping over.

I think Obama's liabilities are just the typical liabilities of typical politicians who run their operations in a manner similar to the Mafia...you know, the kiss of death and all that... (official kill list)... But Obama is not foolish enough to mess with Texas.;)

Reality isn't kind to conservatives.

They have to have their conspiracies and other fantasies in order to justify to themselves that what is obvious to the rest of us isn't true, that conservatives are almost always wrong about the problems that we face, and that the problems that we are faced with today were caused largely by conservative policies. For the most part policies that the conservatives still champion today as the solutions for the problems that those policies created.

Examples,

  • The solution for increasing gun violence is more guns and more concealed carry.
  • The solution for income inequality is more income inequality.
  • The solution for broad based maleficence in the financial markets is further deregulation of the financial markets because they can self-regulate.
  • Everything is better when you lower taxes on the already rich and raise them on everyone else.
  • Starting a war is better than negotiating.
  • Increasing the national debt is the most serious problem that we face unless the debt is caused by lowering taxes on the rich, to finance a war, to pay for corporate subsidies or to finance a Medicare drug benefit.
  • We don't need a national religion, as long as everyone is an evangelical Christian.
  • Racism wouldn't be a problem if not for our half *hite melolin rich Kenyan born dictator, AA and crippling discrimination against the *hite race.
  • Illegals. Secure borders. Sharia law. Kicked God out of the schools.
  • We don't want to reduce the number of abortions, we want to punish the people who do them and who get them by making them illegal, the same strategy that proved so very unsuccessful against drug abuse.
  • We should give the poor less money so that they have the incentive to work harder.
  • We should give the rich more money so that they have the incentive to work harder.
  • Poverty is a moral failing brought on by congenital genetic traits that absolve us of any responsibility for causing it or solving it.
  • The war on Christmas. The war on drugs. The war on crime.
  • The bastardization of RomneyCare into ObamaCare.
  • etc. ...

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmer joins the nutter channeling; I guess he didn't want to be left out of the campy club.
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/rep-gohmert-obama-blame-jade-helm-15-conspiracy-theories
Gohmert, who revealed that he recently met with military officials about the exercise, told the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins that the president incited anti-government sentiment because of the administration’s role in the Little Sisters of the Poor case, which involves a Catholic group that does not want to sign a waiver to become exempt from the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive coverage mandate.

However, former Gov. Rick Perry may be dumb, but evidently he's not willing to pander to nutters:
http://www.salon.com/2015/05/07/chu...believe_that_obama_isnt_invading_their_state/
Former Texas Governor Rick Perry tried to split hairs, saying that he understands why Abbott, Cruz and Gohmert are concerned — they don’t trust the Obama administration — but that “the military is something else” and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Starting a war is better than negotiating.

Objection. I haven't seen any conservatives take this position. Rather, the position they take is that sometimes war is better than a bad deal. The liberal always-negotiate position is a very bad one--if you won't stand up for your position you're going to get walked all over. You have to be willing to fight in order to be taken seriously.

Poverty is a moral failing brought on by congenital genetic traits that absolve us of any responsibility for causing it or solving it.

Objection. While some might see it as due to genetic traits most simply see it as a failing of the person without regard for whether it's due to genetics or not. Most people in poverty have gotten there by a long series of very poor choices. If you're going to keep making stupid choices you're going to be poor whether society helps out or not. Take some responsibility for your own condition and we'll be much more interested in helping.

Which is why we are under Soviet control now due to the negotiations between the US and USSR during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I didn't say you always have to fight, just that if you never fight you're going to be walked all over.

We did fight Russia. What do you think Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan were???

Disasters?
Defeats?
Stains upon your nation's character?

I guess they were lots of things.

'Great successes' doesn't spring to mind as one of them though.

When your record is: Played 3; Drawn 1; Lost 2, perhaps it is a good idea to play a different game.

We'll just have to call you domino man. You seem to think all of life is one big world wide contest for world domination. Hitler thought that and started in his effort to accomplish a win. Our efforts have a similar ring. Why the fuck were we ever in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Korea, Vietnam, etc. etc. till we run out of bytes or paper? Why do we have 800 overseas military bases in countries all over the world? Go ahead and tell me again about the dominos, Loren. It is pure bullshit to keep our war industries humming and those who get rich on such things getting richer.:hobbyhorse:

Mistakes. There was no necessary rationale for the USA to have to fight in those countries.
