Recently, a social worker who has both a 'professional' Twitter account and a private/personal Twitter account, tweeted this in January on his personal twitter:
“Hating women isn’t a meme for me. It’s not an online persona. It’s a commitment. It’s a way of life.”
The tweet received 90,000 likes and 40,000 retweets before it was taken down. This is a sign of serious popular acceptance of misogyny in America.
Of course, that's not how it happened. A female social worker tweeted: “Hating men isn’t a meme for me. It’s not an online persona. It’s a commitment. It’s a way of life.”

Sheabutter describes herself in her Twitter profile as an “Abolitionist MSW + organizer” as well as, somewhat incongruously, a “Total Sweetie.” I’ve heard that Hitler was kind to dogs.
MSW? It stands for Master of Social Work. Disturbingly, this is someone claiming to hold an advanced degree in social work, which Wikipedia tells us is “a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being.”
Elsewhere on her Twitter page, the “Total Sweetie” talks about her pride in being an activist for social justice, emphasizing her dedication to “equity” for disempowered people and communities.
Imagine a man having to interact with this woman for any institutional reason at all. Social workers are supposed to help people with problems that include poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, and family violence. The people who come into contact with social workers are society’s most vulnerable and powerless.
Social workers are supposed to connect hurting people with the services they need. They are expected to demonstrate respect and compassion for all those they encounter.
We already know that the field of social work is heavily skewed by feminist bias to regard men overwhelmingly as perpetrators of violence, and to see women overwhelmingly as innocent victims. We know that most social workers regard men not as human beings with problems, but as problems in themselves.
Despite that dismal reality, it is still horrifying to think of this woman who proudly declares her total commitment to hating men. How could she possibly work for any form of justice at the same time as she promotes hatred as a “way of life”? Could she ever be trusted to interact with men, advocate for men, address men’s issues, or contribute to public discussions involving men free from her hatred? It seems highly unlikely, if not objectively impossible.
