Terrorists take over federal Building, threaten violence

Please stop messing up these threads with his unhealthy obsession of yours. You are free to start a new thread comparing Black Lives Matter to the refuge occupation.
The parallel wasn't just noted by me, but by Occupy Oregon as well as BLM sympathizers, with diametrically opposing conclusions of course.
I fail to see how drawing parallels with BLM is any less relevant to the discussion than childish Southerner stereotypes ('72 cousins') which are ill fitting anyway since this happened in the Northwest.

Posting photos of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman in a blatant attempt to derail this discussion into your crusade against Black Lives Matters and African-American political organizations in general.

Then you really need to get some help with the BLM butthurt.

It wasn't me who made the stupid comment about giving the refuge occupiers some Skittles so they'd get shot. I merely responded to it.

This is true. Derec has been responding to the things being brought up by others. I also agree the Skittles comment isn't very well paralleled in the occupation of the building, as the shooter in the other case wasn't an officer or FBI but some random dumbass. In this case, the FBI is involved and they are taking a much less hands on approach with the armed occupiers (showing a lot of restraint and care), completely unlike the Zimmerman case. There are no parallels at all.

Well, yeah, there are no parallels at all. That's the problem.

There is no parallel to the Trayvon Martin shooting but I think there are many parallels to both Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter occupying various places and for the most part getting away with it.

OWS wasn't heavily armed saying they were willing to die.

The worst BLM seems to have done was to use heavy language with a few people saying inciting language in the heat of the moment.

All three have legit grievances. OWS complained about Wall Street post 2008 global crash, BLM complains about the apparent lack of due process for the Police when blacks are shot and killed. The people at the refuge are complaining about the extension of the sentences on two convicted people. The law, however, is quite clear on mandatory minimum sentencing (which I wouldn't be surprised if many of those occupying the refuge are for... as long as it applies to other people).

However, as noted, neither OWS or BLM were armed to the teeth and prepared to die. Go to the Facebook page for Bundy and even a person or two there are nervous that some within the occupation are looking for a fight. So trying to equate an armed occupation with OWS or a BLM protest is ridiculous.

their takeover of the compound at the federal Malheur National Wildlife Refuge — which was closed for the weekend, and to which somehow they had obtained a full set of keys.
Wait, they had KEYS?

I thought they at LEAST had to break in. That now these patriots had to suffer the winter chill seeping through a window covered by a piece of cardboard taped in place... The hardship of toilets that were within a few degrees of the outside temperature. Chipping ice out of the urinal before flushing.

But they had the keys? They're facing down the might of the Feds in an intact shelter?

I'd have lied. Broken some windows just to let the Feds know I was serious about this standoff.

I'm betting they won't use the toilets because they're those liberal tree-hugger composting numbers. Be even better it it were the "Clivus" brand and they went all, "hey, don't call my dad a toilet!" and shot the shit out of it. So to speak.

No, no, see, it's a witty thing.

There aren't parallels because the reaction isn't the same as in the two places you mentioned [And as to "occupying" places, Occupy intentionally confined itself to public spaces, mostly parks, while BLM "occupies" whatever space they are protesting, but long term as a central location like the bundy idiots or OWS they are not. Not to mention the stark difference in firepower between these groups]

On a different note, as a birder I enjoyed this response from a birder to the Oregon insurrectionists.

Warning-from-the-Birding-Community-to-the-Terrorists-in-Oregon-We-re-Watching-You

Just a friendly warning from the birding and wildlife photography community to the Oregon terrorists. We are watching your every move, and we have been watching you for a long time. And yes absolutely you are domestic terrorists of the worst kind, and the truth about your decades of constant poaching of protected wildlife around Malheur and other wildlife refuges, national parks, national forests and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) lands has been well-documented. For years those of us who are wildlife photographers, birdwatchers and carers of wildlife, have been documenting the activities of you poachers and criminals around many of our nation's wildlife refuges. With our powerful cameras, and ability to move unseen in the wilderness, we have found and documented your illegal hunts, your illegal traps and all sorts of illicit activities, and are constantly feeding that information to law enforcement, and we have finally got many of you poachers on the run and into jails. And I for one am a westerner sick to death of you welfare queens and cheats living off of BLM land, illegally gutting our wilderness and our wildlife. ...

the letter continues...

Privately owned park I think it was but in any case even if you occupy a public space you are denying other members of the public the right to use it.

They had occupied the entrance to a police precinct for weeks (as part of the "4th precinct shutdown") and only a handful were arrested.

Well BLMers shot a few cops already and have issued vile and racist threats. So they are far ahead of Occupy Oregon.
For example, remember the "poor man's Chris Rock" Jeffrey Williams who shot (but luckily did not kill) two cops in Ferguson?
This guy's victim wasn't so lucky:
Suspect in Kentucky trooper’s shooting death was a ‘Black Lives Matter’ advocate in St. Louis, Facebook shows
And so on.

The Guardian took a photo of their supplies.

It included a cardboard box of apples and oranges, a few dozen pots of instant ramen, 24 cans of chicken noodle soup, a similar number of cans of sweetcorn, peas, beans and chili, and 20 boxes of macaroni and cheese.

There were also three sacks of potatoes, one bag of flour, another of rolled oats, boxes of raisins, a single bag of pretzels and one granola bar.
