Terrorists take over federal Building, threaten violence

Isn't this the individual that said, he'd rather die than go to prison? He had the courage of his convictions to act in the face of much criticism. Great criticism. Would I? I'll give the man that much credit.

I don't think it's so much courage of his convictions as realizing he was going to spend a lot of time behind bars and didn't want that.

Possible. More plausible than assuming he still, at this point, trudging through knee deep snow with at least three individuals pointing guns at him, cannot separate fiction from nonfiction.

If he'd been smart, he would have been carrying one of those dildos instead of the 9mm. Imagine the furor if the FBI had killed a guy armed with nothing but a plastic Johnson.

If that were the case, I'd totally be all like "look at that dindu", he's so deserved it.

If BoroNut was still around, he could Photoshop that one for us.

A federal judge ruled on Friday that Oregon militant leaders Ammon and Ryan Bundy and Ryan Payne, would not be eligible for bail before being tried on federal charges, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.

As KOIN-TV reported, federal prosecutors argued in court documents that all three men, as well as the other militants arrested earlier this week, posed flight risks and should not be released.

The Bundys, prosecutors said, lacked “ties to the District of Oregon” despite their visibility.
“This creates an inherent risk of flight. Moreover, [their] own statements demonstrate his unwillingness to comply with the terms of pretrial supervision.”

I take they won't be allowed to get snacks mailed to them in jail.

But the People WANT them there! They practically almost actually invited them there.

I think he thought he was going to win. The guy had it in his head that he was Rambo or some shit like that and was looking to shoot all the cops, resuce his friends and then hightail it back to the bunker where the glorious revolution against the Kenyan usurper would finally get started. The flaw in his plan was that is was thought up by an incompetent idiot.

I can't imagine how he thought he could win with threats behind him. Rambo could have taken down the cop he was facing but not even Rambo would stand a chance against the others.

You're overlooking the "he was an insane idiot" part of your analysis. Rational consideration of the consequences of his actions wasn't part of the thought process.

Amazing all of the ridiculous hypotheticals you have managed over the years, yet can't fathom GI Joe wannabee Patriot thinking he was capable of outwitting the cops.

I just found out today that LaVoy Finicum wrote a book, Only By Blood and Suffering, in which society breaks down, people who foolishly trusted their government to protect them are brutally murdered by rampaging gangs, and the Mary Sue protagonist "Dad" punishes wicked government officials (he hangs one woman he particularly resented), champions real American values, and prevails over all sorts of wickedness using nothing but his guns, grit, and faith in God.

I think the guy was caught up in his own paranoid fantasy, and couldn't think rationally when it really mattered.

Nice reviews. It only came out six months ago. Sad that his genius will not be recognized in his life time (or any others).

No true American dies in a shootout using a 9mm. You go down with your revolver blazing.

Does anyone else think the other occupants of the vehicle told this buffoon to go live out his paranoid death fantasy but don't get us all killed?

I think he just jumped out, ready to go, and was kind of surprised that the rest of them didn't jump out with him. That wasn't much of an issue, though, since there were only five or six cops around him and his 9mm holds like twelve bullets and his super-clever plan of putting his hands up and pretending to surrender for a second to distract them before whipping the gun out and dropping them all was infallible.

What I keep wondering about is what is the Right response to clowns like these guys. I pointed out that if this were the ME, our government would just send in a drone. That of course is not appropriate here...or in fact in the ME. Should our government protect various wildlife species from the grazer, the miners, etc. etc.? I think yes, but how to do it when we have groups like this one that showed up in Eastern Oregon.

They were a group of mentally unstable people. Doesn't matter where they show up. I think the situation was handled well enough. They left a fucking mess behind and they should have to make restitution.
