Texas Special Election Results: Sixth Congressional District & FFvC

Well, it seems that FFvC still has a lot of sway in some Repug circles. The widow of the current representative (who died of Covid-19 complications) came out on top (19-20%) of a large combined field, which probably got a lot of sympathy votes, as well as got Clownstick's endorsement. Lots of Repugs were busy trying to show just how Trumpian they were, but for some poor SOB Michael Wood who became the Repug anti-Trump. Well, he came in 5th among Repugs. The Democrats have a chance at Ms. Sanchez coming in second, which would give them a chance to win in the runoffs, but it is still too close to call... Evidently, the district is slowly trending less bright red.

Wood is only coming in at 3% so far, so the anti-FFvC message ain't working too well in Repug toilet swirls...

The special election was a test case for how much traction an anti-Trump, anti-conspiracy theory message could get in a red district. But the fact that only one Republican candidate was denouncing Trump and conspiracy theories underscored how firm a hold the former President still has on his party.

Looking at the voting results, this is where a cohesive party strategy could make a huge difference if we had the sac to do it.

If the Democratic party had been able to take all of their candidates and get them in a room and decide on ONE to enter the race, they would have gotten more votes that the top GOPer, guaranteeing a spot in the run-off.

Independents and short sighted progressives would have screamed about unfairness, but the more-progressive-than-any-GOPer candidate would have for sure been on the ballot.

This is how party politics can make a difference.

This district would vote for any Rep over a Dem.

This race wasn’t about the Dems stealing a seat, it was the strength of MAGA.

And FFS, it is still strong in not so small pockets.

Yep...The top Democrat came in 300-400 votes short to get into the runoff, so it is Repug verses Repug. The Dems still may not have been able to win in this district, but it had been at least shifting. But this will definitely send a message to the rest of the Repugs that the Clownstick car is still dangerous to their own health if they don't kiss ass...

N.Y. Times Magazine has an interesting article, "The G.O.P. Won It All in Texas. Then It Turned on Itself." (Remember to right-click and "Open in New Private Window" to bypass paywall.)

The article confirms how dysfunctional the GOP has become. They won essentially EVERY 2020 election in Texas, yet the Texas GOP has combating voter fraud as its #1 priority, ahead of vaccinations, making the electric grid more reliable, etc.
