They chose not to associate with organization they perceived as honoring someone dishonorable.
They exercised their freedom. And you're throwing a hissy fit about it.

I don't see how mentioning that someone threw a hissy fit is, in itself, throwing a hissy fit. The Harvard guys wanted to play with a boy they didn't like, so they took their ball and went home.
I don't see how resigning a honorary-sounding probably-unpaid position at a University is a hissy fit either, but since you do I figured your bar was low.
