The Republican Party, the Grand Old Party, the Party of Lincoln is dead. It was buried with black ribbons and flags flown at half staff.


The weeklong funeral was for Sen. John McCain, but we all know that what was buried with him was a political party that for 160 years had stood for something, but now stands for nothing except pettiness, stupidity, greed and hate.


As President Barack Obama put it, “elections matter.” The last one matters in the way that the last nail in the coffin matters, and we are again facing a great test. Nearly 150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln, our first Republican president, made clear what was at stake in our bloody civil war. The test was whether a “nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal ... can long endure.”

The Democrats will take the House, though probably not the Senate. But the stunt Mitch McConnell just pulled, passing massive tax cuts and then using the resulting deficits to justify slashing Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, plus Trumps call to cut all spending except military will doom the GOP and Trump in 2020. The goobers out there in Deplorable land may buy it, but large numbers of Americans will not. Oh yes, and we are backing to eliminating ACA as GOP policy.

The GOP just gulped down the hemlock of right winged extremism, big time.

Dude! I don't know how you can say that. The republicans are a minority party. And yet the control every facet of government in the entire US. It's possible that the dems may win back the house. But the republicans will control everything else. They'll probably control the SC for the next 30 years...
