Yeah, I know there are nuts on the left as well. Anywho, I got hooked on this site ( http://www.rightwingwatch.org ) a while back after a strange exchange we had with one of our in-laws, who ironically got us pointed towards it due to their wacky love of the Family Research Council. It is a strange thing to read thru the daily reports of the machinations of the nuttier nuts within the right wing. Sometimes I think, no surely most of the people/audience don’t believe what the writer/speaker is saying.

So here is a speaker/writer who thinks there are evidently tens of thousands of Muslim spies in the US already. And where does one park 100 million immigrants w/o being noticed? In Trump Towers? Or maybe the imaginary FEMA camps under the Texas MallWarts?

Unsurprisingly, speakers at the conference are delivering all sorts of apocalyptic warnings, such as the one issued by right-wing anti-Islam activist Avi Lipkin — the right-wing activist who thinks that President Obama and the Illuminati are bringing 100 million Muslims to America — who told attendees that every church in America has been infiltrated by Muslim "spies" who are pretending to have converted to Christianity for the sole purpose of gathering information on all the members of the congregation so that they can be killed when Muslims carry out jihad against America:

Evidently David Lane is an emerging broker within the right wing, and isn’t laughed at when he uses the Mayflower Compact to argue for declaring America to be a Christian nation and the Bible should be a school textbook. He is looking for a thousand preachers to run for office in 2016. He has also spouted the tale about ISIS camps just across our Northern border with Mexico.

Lane’s belief that America is “a nation founded by Christians…for the Glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith” is not based on the people traditionally seen as the nation’s Founding Fathers – the authors of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Lane looks back to the pilgrims and the Mayflower compact, and even further to the covenant declared by Robert Hunt, founder of the Jamestown, Virginia, colony in 1607:

“We do hereby Dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this ear remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World.”

That covenant, Lane insists, “is still in force.” In May 2015, he ranted, “Egregious and scandalous is the Church’s submission to secularists,” and the abandonment of that founding “mission.”

The right wing doesn’t even flinch as Ann Coulter spouts off that women shouldn’t have the right to vote, and she may not even be one of the nuttier nuts. Then there are the anti-homofascists with their crazy ideas that preachers will be regularly jailed within a few years for not ‘tolerating’ legal gay marriage. WTF is a homofascist (rhetorical question). Yeah, look the number of prison years, psycho hate preacher, Freddie Phelps has faced. Oh, wait…he hasn’t. Never mind that there are still church preachers railing against interracial marriage. I guess after the (never happened) marshal law take over of Texas, I shouldn’t be stunned by such mass stupidity, but just fuck…the stupid….

This kind of reminds me at a larger scale of the hoopla that surrounded then Candidate Obama, with some of the more incendiary comments made by his church preacher Rev. Wright. Though Obama was compelled to dis-own the preacher and the comments. This time around we have a Repug clown van chock full of candidates pandering to this large pile of nutt sellers, and some are even defending a sexual predator. They sure are working on generating lots of fodder for the eventual Dum candidate to throw out for middle America to later read about.

But how many of them will be Muslims in disguise?

And why the hell didn't we homofascists think to infiltrate the churches to identify our enemies?

It is a matter of laughing until you cry. This galaxy of insanity has always existed in the right wing, but traditionally we ignored the wingnuts and conservatives in general. The wingnuts no one could keep up with as they danced from one weird conspiracy theory to another. And no one needed to ask what the conservative position was on any topic because it was always the same answer, no.

It was only because the wealthy started to pay attention to the conservatives that we have this mess that we have now. The wealthy needed an easily manipulated core of voters willing to vote against their own economic interests and instead to vote to increase the incomes of the wealthy at the cost of their own incomes.

They found these people on the right, conservatives, reactionaries, libertarians, racists, xenophobes, homophobes, religious fanatics, gun nuts, etc., people who had traditionally ignored suddenly were not only heard, they were courted as if their craziness made sense. And the wing nuttery was given the same weight as reality, as if it represented a valid alternative to reality.

"Of course, it only makes sense that 98% of all of the climatologists in the world have entered into an undetectable conspiracy to destroy the coal and the oil companies, to weaken the very sinews of the American spirit. The solar heating of the atmosphere is natural even though it is happening 400 times faster than any natural heating of the planet that we have seen in the geological record."

And miracles do favor the dull sometimes. The Democrats actually helped this march to the right. They decided to try to box in the Republicans by also moving to the right, away from their traditional strengths, support for the working class. The Democrats were chasing the mythical independents in the center. The voters that many claim to be except when they get into the voting booth and vote for the party that they have always supported.

But by moving to the right the Democrats validated much of the wing nuttery that the Republicans were spouting. It was crazy what they did.

It is easy to be a conservative, to always have excuses for not doing anything. To have a single, easy answer for our problems, that it is the government's fault. Even after thirty five years of applying conservative principles of governing it is never those principles and the policies resulting from them that are at fault. The largest financial crisis since the Great Depression hits when recently deregulated banks nearly destroy the country by mishandling unregulated, poorly formed financial instruments dealing in sub-prime mortgages that turned our banks into predatory lenders and the crisis that resulted is blamed not on deregulation but on a fifty year old law that had never caused any problems before and two government sponsored organizations that didn't touch the sub-prime mortgages until late in the cycle when forced to by their stockholders to chase higher returns, stockholders that they only had because they had been recently privatized so that the taxpayers wouldn't have to bear the risk of the GSOs' failure, which the taxpayers had to do anyway as they also had to bailout the banks that caused the crisis doing the very things that the regulations that were removed were written to prevent.
