The Silencing of Elizabeth: Real Life Time Movie.

Backfired, though.
After Warren was muzzled, Senator Tom Udall (D. NM) went and added the letter to the official Congressional Record, where it could be freely cited. The subsequent rush to the podium to read the letter was hilarious.

This is the kind of shit that pisses me off. People keep saying this backfired. Not really. Sessions is now AG. I'm glad more were able to hear the letter by King's widow, but it doesn't seem like much gets accomplished here.

Just like the left keeps emphasizing how many well organized protests are springing up everywhere. Great, where is that getting them? The only thing that seems to be able to possibly unseat Trump is his own ineptness. Where were all these assholes on election day? Fuckers. Sorry, a little demoralized. Every day I see the great orange Cheeto say something more stupid, surrounded by Republicans that are well aware he's causing the US huge amounts of damage, but there they sit, allowing this to happen in order to maintain power. So much for them being the true patriots. Fuckwits.

Well Sessions would have been confirmed with or without reading of the letter.

Sessions was going to be AG no matter what Warren did. The catastrophe already happened. Trump was elected, and the Democrats are too weak to do anything but protest. So now we have to protest and win over the voters again. If this helps that, it was good.

Naw, that thread was Derec'd and dismalized.

Yeah. We are kicking ass in mobilizing protests right now. Would have been nice to have mobilized voters to have avoided all of this in the first place.

It's not as cool to tweet out pics of yourself in line at the polls as it is pics of you protesting horrible events you helped cause.

I wonder how long this will last. Every week (and sometimes every day) there's some new level of bullshit put out there by Trump and his merry band of assholes, then a bunch of deserved "backlash," and then we go right back to SNAFU. The talking points get repeated, the Trumpsters trumpet every outrage as a victory, and at some point they're just going to wear the nation down until nobody gives a fuck anymore.

A couple years from now will we even bat an eye when (not if) Trump does something blatantly unconstitutional? Yeah, Warren might scold him, but McConnell and Ryan have made it pretty much clear their respective houses of Congress will be lap-dogs for Cheeto Mussolini. The legislative branch would have to change hands in 2018 in order for Trump to be held accountable. Gerrymandering makes that unlikely in the House, and unless something really bad happens to the economy I don't know if the current level of outrage can be sustained enough to flip the Senate.

We are dependent on a few republican senators developing a conscience. God help us all.

Our only chance is that the GOP wants to install Pence as POTUS. And even then, that only reduces this to a W Admin, which isn't exactly helping us with any sort of progress... but we don't need as much to worry about hearing that we just bombed Iran.

You think the other republicans don't want to bomb Iran?

It's really, really scary the damage this is going to cause. I have a strong feeling that down the line there will be such a backlash against the right, but the damage will already be done. Terrorism will intensify. Racial relations will intensify. The economy will tank. Everyone will lose ever more freedoms. Education will become less and less valuable as it's gutted to feed a 20th century military in a 21st century situation. I see no reason why the Johnson amendment won't be appealed. Dark money will flood up to the Republicans from the churches as things continue to get progressively worse. A weakened judiciary, now with Trump appointees aboard, will roll over for more insane policies. You CAN go backwards, and I see no reason why we will not. This generation is fucked as far as I can see. The only thing that could stop this is Trump's own ineptness. Even so, if it just gets handed to Pence, it will pretty much end up the same, but it will just appear a bit more polished.

Yes. You have to win over the voters and this does help. The Democratic party needs more of this and less selling out to Wall Street and less PC regressive bullshit and you may have a chance next time. May even have a blowout in your favour.

Yeah, as a beltway insider might say, the optics here are great for Warren.

Were you a writer on the Ghostbusters movie?
