I downloaded and read the 2016 Texas State Republican platform. It is here, https://www.texasgop.org/wp-content...urMail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Platform

Point 86 reads,

Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible, recognized by our nations founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public policy, nor should family be redefined to include homosexual couples. We oppose the granting of special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior, regardless of state of origin. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.

It is hard for me to accept but apparently the Texas Republicans believe that "homosexuality is a chosen behavior ... that has been ordained by god in the bible ... and shared by the majority of Texans." I was born and raised in Texas. I didn't know that many Republicans then, but the Republicans are a majority there now so they should know.

It is also difficult to believe that any adult in the 21st century believes that homosexuality is a chosen behavior. This document is filled with extremist bullsh*t like this.

At least they have backed off of their call for a return to the gold standard. Point 184, "We support the return to the precious metal standard for the United States dollar." They agree with William Jennings Bryant that mankind shouldn't be crucified upon a cross of gold. They have progressed to the point that they want us to be crucified upon a cross of silver and gold.

Thanks to NPR, I speed read and didn't catch the "has" referring to the "behavior" vs. what they probably intended to say, "have" referring to "truths", error. Using the singular meant that the rest of the sentence referred to the behavior.

It's probably just a case of selection bias. They know they're gay, most people who come to their party meetings are gay, most people at the leather club they go to after their party meetings ar gay, etc. They just run into gay people so often that it seems teh gheys are everywhere.

My theory:
It just may be a choice to them. They are attracted to both sexes and cannot fathom that somebody is not interested in having sex with both men and women.

You are probably right. It is like living in certain areas of any major city. Our condo is in midtown Atlanta and about one half of the owners and the residents are gay. It is easy to believe that a half of the city is gay after living there for a while.

I've always considered I'm not a homosexual but my boyfriend is.

Point 183,
Federal Reserve System- We believe Congress should repeal the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 thereby abolishing the Federal Reserve Banking System. In the interim, we call for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve System and its Board of Governors followed by an immediate report to the American people

I don't really understand the Republican, conservative and Libertarian obsession with the Federal Reserve. The explanation that I have gotten here is that the potentional exists for the Fed to debase the dollar by running their printing presses overtime. This is like arguing that the military could start a war by themselves and therefore we should get rid of the military.

The Fed is nothing more than the banks' bank. The Fed provides all of the services that your local bank does to the nation's banks. They take deposits and they loan money to the banks when they need it.

The Fed does this to maintain the stability of the nation's banking system.

They are charged with maintaining the value of the currency, too. To keep inflation under control by varying the interest rate that it charges banks. Or by what is know as Open Market Operations, buying or selling bonds to soak up or to inject money into the economy.

They are part of the evil government regulation mechanism, which might explain why the neoliberals find the Fed so distasteful. It is in their capacity to stabilize the banking system that they have these regulatory obligations. including the power to order banks to stop any practices that might threaten that stability.

The neoliberals believe that in part it was the Fed that caused the Great Financial Crisis and Recession of 2008 by keeping interest rates too low for too long which resulted in the housing asset bubble which triggered the financial crisis when it burst. But the money that created the bubble wasn't produced by the normal banking system, it was money from the so-called shadow banking system, largely the money accumulated over thirty five years of neoliberal economic fiscal policies designed to provide more money to the wealthy for investment. Many times the amount of money that could be invested productively in traditional business investments like building new production facilities.

But it is true that the Fed was partily responsible for the GFC&R of 2008. But it wasn't because of something that they did, it was because of something that they didn't do. In spite of warnings from the FBI and the FDIC as early as 2003, the Fed (and the SEC) failed to prevent the banks from engaging in the speculation in sub-prime mortgage financial investment, MBSs, and in the credit default swaps, CDSs, that bet on them. But the Fed made this mistake, this failure to regulate, because the Fed was following neoliberal orthodoxy, deregulation. Therefore the neoliberals were left having to make up lies about the cause of the GFC&R.

Abolishing the Fed would be disastrous.

My condo is across the street from Bulldog's, here, a largely African-American gay bar. The University of Georgia's mascot is the bulldog. It is fun to go to the bar when the UGA football team is playing in Atlanta and to see the expressions on the out of town UGA fans who come in expecting it to be a sports bar for them.

Point 14,

State Sovereignty- Federally mandated legislation, which infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas, should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified. Regulation of Commerce in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution has exceeded the original intent. All attempts by the federal judiciary to rule in areas not expressly enumerated by the Untied States Constitution should be likewise nullified. Any federal enforcement activities that do occur in Texas should be conducted under the authority of the county sheriff.

Nullification, really? So 1850's of you!

Point 16,

United States Senators- We support the repeal of the 17th Amendment of the United States Constitution and the appointment of United States Senators by the state legislatures.

Why not just ignore it like you do other federal laws that you don't like? See point 14, above.

Agreed. The ones that protest too much about homosexuality often turn out to be hiding their own sexuality.

Point 15,

Texas Protecting Texans- We support Federal legislation remanding all authority over abortion back to the individual States and removing all standing on this issue from the federal judiciary as given by Article III in the US Constitution. We also support family control of end of life decisions.

There goes the 14th amendment. These people have a funny way of honoring the US Constitution, by ignoring large parts of it.

I don't understand the reference to Article III, the article that establishes the US Supreme Court as having all of the judicial power in the US. I thought that it was where in the Constitution the doctrine of "original intent" was explicitly spelled out. But that is a no.
