The US House Of Representatives Just Conducted A Show Trial

Citizens United increased big money, but backroom deal making goes back to the beginning. Lincoln was a hardball player as we say today.

The DNC and RNC influence local candidate selection through money. Jesse Ventura likened it all to TV wrestling, it is all theater in which the DNC and RNC need each other as combataants.

But there is a new elemnt. I am not religious, but there seems to be an evil that came through from some republicans in the inquisition. Deep abiding hate and a virulent malevelant spirit has taken hold beyond politucs as usual.

Fair comments, but they don't support the assertion that no Dems read the ACA prior to passage. I'm pretty sure they did read it - I watched some of the hearings and heard some public debate on the Republican amendments that Dems had to add to ensure passage. They seemed to have read it quite thoroughly. Yeah, the decisions about whether to sacrifice x,y and z in order to get the thing passed were made in back rooms... thus it has always been and will always be, as long as there is any vestige of representative democracy remaining. But it wsn't a rubber stamp.

Pelosi famously said we will tell you what's in it after it passes, trust me it is good for you. It was riddled with backroom negotiations and concessions. You are hard pressed to separate both sides based on how they act.

Democrats and republicans both become sheep if they have the WH/ There are exceptions, Macaine for one.

You sure are using a lot of Republican talking points to try to convince us they are all the same.

We have a saying here, The Moore-Coulter fallacy. Maybe someone will explain it to you.

I have been called a lot of things but never anything as mean as republican. I ascribe to freethought, approaching a problem without regard to any specific ideology. Neither a republican nor a democrat be.

On the face of it the ACA was headed for problems. It was unreasonable to expect that rates would drop while meditating more coverage and expense. As we say in engineering it was a jury rigged kludge. The ACA is yet another data point that our political system is unable to derive comprehensive working pragmatic non ideological solutions to problems.

No experience is required for Congress in compromise and problem solving. The majority are lawyers are they not? Beyond ideology collectively they do not know how to solve problems.

As we say it will become an OBE situation. Overcome by events. The current border situation is an example. Eventually the system will slip into crisis mode. Water, food, power. The grid is aging.

Congress is corrupted by money and behind the scene king makers. It is not exactly a secret.

This all goes to Citizens United, which for some ungodly reason, folks like our own James Madison hail as a "correct decision".
IMHO that was about as "correct" a decision as the 1857 Dred Scott decision... or maybe less so.

It comes down to the First Amendment. Restricting political speech clearly is in violation of it. The only way to really deal with it is via constitutional amendment. I used to favor taking this route and putting some fairly major restrictions on political speech but I no longer feel that way--the Russian election meddling makes it very clear that enforcement would be impossible.

Money isn't speech.

I've got to say, I've never been a fan of the Bureau types, but they are much smarter and more much more competent than Congress.

That's because they were often viewed (sometimes for good reason) as hyper-partisan, overly-patriotic types that were willing to overlook certain indiscretions for the sake of the country. Now they are the sane ones. I also think they now finally realize how Republican patriotism is very finicky when it comes to their ideology. Now we need the military to also have this realization.

FBI agent Peter Strzok’s hearing has become a ridiculous circus

"FBI agent Peter Strzok’s testimony before Congress on Thursday collapsed into a full-on partisan circus, with Republican and Democratic members shouting at each other, House Judiciary Chair Bob Goodlatte threatening to hold Strzok in contempt, and Democrats staging an over-the-top political stunt."

Excuse me... how was it a DEMOCRATIC "over-the-top political stunt"? This was purely a Republican fiasco (and boy did they get shellacked, too)

That was referring to the signs that were held up with photographs of Trump's staff that have been convicted of crimes. I understand that didn't make it to tv screens.

I saw them. I still maintain it wasn't the democrats who were over-the-top :p

You mean... Republicans famously lied about what Pelosi actually said by taking a very few words far out of context.

That's because they have to be qualified to get those jobs, while any idiot can run for Congress and sadly, quite a few of them win.

That hearing was a complete waste of time. There was not on jot of actual evidence that any investigation was biased. Flinging baseless accusations and suspicions is for internet forums, it should not be the basis for a hearing.

Strzok's body language is Kevin Spacey level of gay. Is his relationship with Page something else and the lover story a limited hang out?

America is dead. The process of decay has begun. Watching it unfold was saddening. It has all come down to this.

Politicians acting like grand inquisitors. The seeds are sown for future political violence and rebellion. It happened in the 60s over civil rights and the war. Cities burned, Kent State, and we survived intact. Next time maybe not.

Are you seriously equating the civil rights movement with the open treason of modern Republicans?

Gosh, I'm shocked. A Republican politician has ties to Russia? Utterly shocking. Who could ever have guessed that the party that spent decades making it legal for foreign entities to spend unlimited money on American elections would have so many ties to Russia?

I mean other than everyone with a brain and a pulse, who could have possibly predicted this?

What the hell is this?

If you ask him to explain what he meant by posting this, good luck getting a clear answer.

Pretty clear to me. His best defense is to call the guy gay. Evidently in repoman’s little fifth grade universe that means his testimony isn’t valid or some dumb fucking thing.
