FBI agent Peter Strzok’s hearing has become a ridiculous circus

"FBI agent Peter Strzok’s testimony before Congress on Thursday collapsed into a full-on partisan circus, with Republican and Democratic members shouting at each other, House Judiciary Chair Bob Goodlatte threatening to hold Strzok in contempt, and Democrats staging an over-the-top political stunt."

For the record, the "over the top political stunt" refereed to here was holding up a few poster boards. What was on the signs they held up? Pictures and facts that everyone in the hearing Republican and Democrat must agree are true.

God damn I hate Louie Gohmert. He should stick to his Gomer Pyle impersonation and get the fuck out of politics and back into the Carnie game where he belongs.

Yeah, he was way over the top. But considering what we have for a president, over the top appears to be becoming the new norm.

America is dead. The process of decay has begun. Watching it unfold was saddening. It has all come down to this.

Politicians acting like grand inquisitors. The seeds are sown for future political violence and rebellion. It happened in the 60s over civil rights and the war. Cities burned, Kent State, and we survived intact. Next time maybe not.

The good thing is no one was killed, so we still haven't gone the farthest down we can go, and we aren't quite up to McCarthy yet.

But goodness sakes! What in the hell happened to the Republican Party?

Me thinks the appropriate term is kangaroo court. I didn't see the entire hearing but towards the end it was basically one Republican congressman after another haranguing Strzok without allowing him any time to respond. But he gave a very honorable and strident defense of his performance at the FBI as well as defending the integrity of the Bureau itself which received some applause (and was aired by Rachel Maddow. 18 min segment of the show here, with that part of his testimony from 8:15 to 11:05). But they wouldn't let up on the grilling and only got more sanctimonious over the 10 hours. I had doubts about Strzok when I heard about his emailed comments, but here he came out looking good.

There is not much difference between the left and right. When Obama was elected the media fawned over him. It was years before there was any mainstream criticism and then it was softball.

The dems got on board the Obama train. No dems in the congress actually read the ACA, they just rubber stamped it. Republicans jumped on board with Trump to ride his coat tails.

Congress is corrupted by money and behind the scene king makers. It is not exactly a secret.

This all goes to Citizens United, which for some ungodly reason, folks like our own James Madison hail as a "correct decision".
IMHO that was about as "correct" a decision as the 1857 Dred Scott decision... or maybe less so.

You are wandering with that paragraph. Left and Right are the same. Media loved Obama. *sigh*

What?!

Any other vague platitudes you want to add? The GOP in the House are obstructing an investigation, and nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for his napkin peace treaty with North Korea. The Dems passed the ACA... and you are playing Moore Coulter.

Citizens United didn't invent the smokey rooms. Those have been around for a long time. Citizens United just made things a bit worse and prevents any attempt at trying to fix the money in politics problem.

Yup, it was a series of "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" style questions trying to use the O.J. defense.

Do the Russians have shit on the entire Republican party?

True... and those effects have been and will continue to be devastating to American society, culture and politics.
Not sure where Steve is coming from with this:

No dems in the congress actually read the ACA, they just rubber stamped it.

Over a year of open hearings, and no Dems even read it? Hardly a credible claim.

Citizens United increased big money, but backroom deal making goes back to the beginning. Lincoln was a hardball player as we say today.

The DNC and RNC influence local candidate selection through money. Jesse Ventura likened it all to TV wrestling, it is all theater in which the DNC and RNC need each other as combataants.

But there is a new elemnt. I am not religious, but there seems to be an evil that came through from some republicans in the inquisition. Deep abiding hate and a virulent malevelant spirit has taken hold beyond politucs as usual.

Fair comments, but they don't support the assertion that no Dems read the ACA prior to passage. I'm pretty sure they did read it - I watched some of the hearings and heard some public debate on the Republican amendments that Dems had to add to ensure passage. They seemed to have read it quite thoroughly. Yeah, the decisions about whether to sacrifice x,y and z in order to get the thing passed were made in back rooms... thus it has always been and will always be, as long as there is any vestige of representative democracy remaining. But it wsn't a rubber stamp.

My favorite part of the hearing was when one interrogator (can't remember who it was) brought up a Strzok text about his hatred of Congress - then went on to admit that most of the US population has a hatred of congress. And I thought 'do you think your conduct here has anything to do with that opinion? Do you even care if everyone hates you anymore? If not why do you care about that particular text?'

A right wing take on it:

Do Peter Strzok and the democrats think America is stupid?

When he refuses to answer questions on the advise of the FBI counsel about the on going Mueller investigation put to him by the Republican congressmen but will answer the questions about that same investigation that the Democrat congressmen ask? Give me a break he trying to take the fifth without taking the fifth while attempting to do as much damage to the current Administration as he can figuring out the Democrats will have his back.

The American people barring a few useful idiots in the MSM and here are not that stupid to see what is going on here. and they wont' like it the Democrats better stop playing politics here and start trying to get to the truth

The sad truth is that the roughly 50% of voters who supported Hillary really are that stupid.

Some people are actually taking this as another reason to distrust the investigation.

[ETA]
you should really check out their threads on Roe Vs Wade, you can almost see the excited jizz coming out the screen with the new SCOTUS vacancy.

Excuse me... how was it a DEMOCRATIC "over-the-top political stunt"? This was purely a Republican fiasco (and boy did they get shellacked, too)

Not to mention ALEC that actually writes legislation for Republicans. Oops, I guess I just did.

That was referring to the signs that were held up with photographs of Trump's staff that have been convicted of crimes. I understand that didn't make it to tv screens.

Pelosi famously said we will tell you what's in it after it passes, trust me it is good for you. It was riddled with backroom negotiations and concessions. You are hard pressed to separate both sides based on how they act.

Democrats and republicans both become sheep if they have the WH/ There are exceptions, Macaine for one.
