Earlier this week 'The Tragically Hip' announced that lead singer, and Canadian icon, Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. A few days later they announced a final summer tour that's surely going to be overwhelmingly emotional and heartbreaking.
The Tragically Hip have fallen by the wayside in the last decade or so, but from the late eighties and through the nineties they were one of the biggest acts in Canada, and cemented themselves in our cultural history. I'd also say that Gord Downie himself is one of the greatest song-writers I've heard, just amazing lyrically. He'll be missed.
