This Virus Has Shown How Important Corporations Are To The People

as explained elsewhere in this thread.
SOME of the rich bastards at the top are using their personal funds to keep the company afloat.
Some are granting big severance packages.
Who owns Hobby Lobby, and wgat are they worth?
And have they EVER read anything Jesus said about how to treat the poor? we have a discrete approach to the problem, here.
I, the atheist, think the people are more important than the corporate returns to investors.
You, the alleged Xian, value wealth more than workers. you mean, they obey the law? Weird. the supermarkets here are bending over backwards to keep everyone employed.
Hobby ket tgem go without two weeks notice. So, like, fuck corporate.
"Pay me with the money you don't have!
but thry DO have the money. That's the whole point.
Stay open with the money you can't afford to pay rent to stay open!" doesn't sound too smart, does it?
no, but it does sound humble, generous, empathetic...you know, what i was told Christains should be, back when i was one.

Keith,

Jesus was for charity for the poor. He was not for stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor.

That is the stuff churches and billionaires do: donate to charity for poor people. Jesus never said, "If you find a rich man, steal money from them and give it to the poor people."

WTF? Pray tell, what are you babbling about (the underlined part)? Just what 'stealing' are you going on about?

This virus has shown just how stupid the conservative political position has become, in its slavish devotion to avarice and mendacity.

Probably talking about taxes. Greedy right wing nutjobs who don't want to pay taxes tend to argue against the government helping the poor, sick, needy... ya know, the stuff Jesus said to do. They try to argue that it is to be done through charity, rather than government. Really to just cover what selfish greedy assholes they are.

As to what the bible actually says about paying taxes:

What the Bible says about Taxes
Pay your taxes.

Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus... said, ... Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. Matthew 22:17-21
Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, ... said ... bring me a penny, that I may see it. And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. Mark 12:14-17

Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? But he ... said ... Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. Luke 20:22-25

Pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Romans 13:6-7

The rich should pay much more in taxes than the poor.

And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites.... And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. Mark 12:42-44
And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. Luke 21:1-3

The taxes thing has been done to death. For example, people say "the homeless should just live in houses for free!" But then the question becomes, "Why do I have to work for my house then? Why can't I get a free one, too?"

There's a fine line between using taxes to help people and using taxes to screw over people. Why should I bust my hump working all day for my mortgage payments while some homeless guy gets to live in a house for free?

Halfie:

Profit is the amount of money remaining after revenue is collected and all bills and payroll are paid. BTW, I'm pretty sure that Hobby Lobby's CEO and Board of Directors got paid.

For Hobby Lobby to maintain a profit while firing its entire workforce tells you everything you need to know about Hobby Lobby.

But logically, the workers can not all get paid millions of dollars in salary to stock shelves and punch a cash register. Do you know what that would do to inflation? Prices would skyrocket. The company would also have no profits.

I used to joke around that if we got paid 8 million dollars an hour, a can of soda would be 1 million dollars.

This is why the assertion could be made that you don't argue in good faith and are a troll. Nobody was talking about increasing wages. All Keith pointed out was a corporation firing people whilst still making nine figure profits really doesn't give a fuck about people. Considering the stimulus package the US government is handing out, Hobby Lobby has no excuse to fire its workers, it's just a cunt move.

"We need to fire our workers because our EBIT is only half a billion dollars". That's your argument? That's pathetic.

I thought the leaders of hobby lobby were mostly men, unlike their workforce and their customers. Or were you trying to say that that move was a misogynist, patriarchal one?

With all the people losing their jobs now, they now realize just how important these big businesses are for their survival. Tons of people are out of work wondering how they are going to make money. But when they are employed, they have nothing but bad words for these companies.

I hopefully never want to hear leftists or progressives complaining about big businesses ever again. You see what happens when they shut down. Millions of people become stressed and scared for money.

What say you guys?

And you refuse to acknowledge that the reason businesses are shutting down is that no one is buying their products or using their services, restaurants, and airlines for example, while businesses whose products and services are still in demand like Amazon and delivery and take-out are hiring.

How do you explain the differences between the companies that are letting people go and the companies that are hiring without mentioning the consumer demand for the products and the services provided by the businesses? That the businesses that lost business lost money to invest in the business? This is the way that you have to look at it if you truly believe that the economy is driven by the amount of supply available, i.e. the amount of financial capital available.

In the economy that we really have, the consumer is the driving force, the stock market has very little impact on the economy and the stock market investors have no role in the business. The corporations don't use the stock market to raise funds for their investments, they retain profits or issue bonds or borrow money from the banks.

The most important people to the corporations are their customers and their employees. Their customers are important because this is where the money most to the corporations come from, their sales volume. I worked for thirty years for corporations and I was in very many meetings about the company's sales. I can't remember a single meeting about the corporation's stock price.

And no corporation innovates new products or increases the workers' productivity. It is the employees of corporations who do these things.

Really? You?

Board of Directors
CEO
COO
Vice Presidents
Division Directors

All could be millionaires

"Could be" doesn't make it so.

And being a millionaire doesn't mean you're making a million.

If I had a large corporation I would want all of those people to be millionaires--if not it says they aren't handling their personal finances very well. (These will be well paid, older people. Prudent retirement savings for such people is over a million.)

No one can say for certain how many millionaires have been created by Wall Street’s long boom, but according to one government survey there were already 4.6 million U.S. families worth more than $1 million by the end of 1998. That number may seem small compared with the general population—it’s less than 5% of all families—but the new millionaires tend to be clustered in the industries, namely high-tech and finance, that made them rich. It is well known that roughly 30% of Microsoft’s 31,000 employees are millionaires, but that’s hardly an exceptional case. At Citigroup, for instance, 150 employees are worth more than $50 million—and about 1,000 people make over $1 million in cash each year, according to two sources close to the investment bank. Even an established company like Wal-Mart, thanks to its practice of aggressively pushing equities down the ranks, has its fair share of millionaires

Because you say shit like
... by April we will be laughing going,
"Remember how everyone panicked over the coronavirus
because the media started fear mongering?"

Which might possibly indicate a no-talent dumbass who doesn't know how to create value or how to flimflam his way through life. Bottom line, that homeless guy is smarter than you. Now get over it and get back to work. You need to find a way to make us laugh by tomorrow morning.

Sorry, mate. I'm typing from the future (it's 2pm Wednesday where I live) and coronavirus is still very much a real thing.

You didn't answer the question. No one did.

Why should I bust my hump working all day for my mortgage payments while some homeless guy gets to live in a house for free?

I'm off to work every morning while homeless Johnny next door is drinking beer on his front porch all day in his free house?

Half-Life calls himself a victim here. I thought that that was a no-no.

Everybody would be a victim if the homeless can get free houses. Then why not let everyone get a free house?

You can easily imagine going to work in the morning and seeing your neighbor passed out drunk on his lawn again and you just shake your head and go, "And he gets a free house!"

because you would want a better home than the minimal-shelter mini-house such a progam would likely provide.
Same way you'd rather work and buy groceries than simply collect food stamps.

you have such weird fantasies, Halfie.

no, but it does sound humble, generous, empathetic...you know, what i was told Christains should be, back when i was one.

Keith,

Jesus was for charity for the poor. He was not for stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor.

That is the stuff churches and billionaires do: donate to charity for poor people. Jesus never said, "If you find a rich man, steal money from them and give it to the poor people."
Ok, so now you get around to being at least somewhat clear with the below addition:
The taxes thing has been done to death.
Well, the quotes associated with Jesus and the NT don't say tons of things. The NT doesn't ever envision a world in which Christians are in charge of a government, nor does it envision anything that could be called democracy. Jesus also never said, "Let the rich horde their riches and live better than kings of lore". Jesus never said taking care of the poor should be done thru charity instead of by the government. Jesus also never said, "Apes read philosophy, they just don't understand it."... Corporation's share of federal taxes paid, are at historical lows as well.

https://endhomelessness.org/ending-homelessness/policy/federal-funding-homelessness-programs/
HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program received $2.777 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2020.

https://www.nmhc.org/news/nmhc-news/hud-budget-increased-for-fiscal-year-2020/
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will have $49.1 billion in resources for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 – an increase of $4.9 billion above the FY 2019 level.

Even at $50 billion assuming all HUD money goes to housing your 'poor' category, it would still only represent 1.04% of the $4.79 trillion budget. What do you think your Jesus would think of America's trillion dollar war machine?

What little you might pay in, would hardly be paying the Federal bills (even ignoring the ongoing crisis), as the spending is roughly $15,000 per person.

Have you ever spent time with a homeless person, or a person getting that 'free' housing you are whining about? Have you had lunch with such a person? Have you ever been part of a social event with such a person? Have you ever learned enough about such an individual to know at least some of their story? Your Jesus would do that. I have done that...

Why should I bust my hump working all day for my mortgage payments while some homeless guy gets to live in a house for free?

Because you are poorly endowed with mental faculties. That's why you say shit say like:
... by April we will be laughing going,
"Remember how everyone panicked over the coronavirus
because the media started fear mongering?"

And then, having had your question answered in a manner you have a hard time accepting, you say:
You didn't answer the question. No one did.
... which is a blatant... uh ... UNtruth.

Further evidence: You parrot the stupidest person ever to sit in the oval office.
Even your complaints make no sense -

"homeless Johnny next door is drinking beer on his front porch all day in his free house."

Maybe you can find someone who isn't a relative to explain how you are failing to make sense.
Why don't you have a nice free house with a front porch and a cooler full of beer? Ask Donald - he'll tell you to get over it, pull yourself up by your bootstraps and quit with the avocado toast.
