An otherwise unqualified anti-abortion hardliner who literally holds the keys to preventing young women from obtaining their legal abortions.

Office of Refugee Resettlement Director Scott Lloyd, who has taken the unprecedented step of requiring a sign-off for any abortion of an immigrant teen in custody, wrote in an internal Dec. 17 memo that the 17-year-old girl had been raped in her home country, that the rape had resulted in pregnancy, and that she had threatened to harm herself if she was unable to have an abortion. He also wrote that she was 22 weeks pregnant at the time.

The document was the first to reveal that Lloyd has barred victims of rape from obtaining abortions, as he has done with other teens in government custody, and one of the clearest descriptions yet of how his ideology is shaping the agency’s treatment of pregnant girls.

This is the second case coming to national prominence.

He lost when the ACLU had to sue his department the first time, but he is still putting his religious crusade ahead of the lives of the girls he has power over.

Not surprising. All the more reason to streamline the immigration process.

Streamlining will do nothing about this--they aren't kept away by the bureaucracy, but by the fact that we don't allow an infinite number of people in.

While they really need to improve their processing speed (it can take years for processing) the only real beneficiaries will be those applying for visas that don't have waiting lists--fiance of citizens, spouse of citizens and IIRC minor children of citizens. In the other cases the faster processing will just show up as a longer time on the waiting list.
