Basically, get rid of the independence of government agencies, make them directly obey the president.

Friends don't let friends vote Republican!

Read: it really upset Trump when he told federal agencies to do absurd things, and they told him that they either couldn't or wouldn't do them.

When he was simply claiming to be "your voice, your justice, your retribution", in other words, girding himself for a Revenge Presidency, I thought, well, this is mental illness. In the 60s, they'd've put him on Librium. This new slant is pure authoritarianism, and it seems to be going down well with the orthodox-pure Trumpers, which is the greater mass of the GOP. Because they are already masters at minority rule, it's a dark prospect for this country.

Trump will not be the Republican nominee and he certainly will not be president again.

I think the Republicans will start thinking about self-preservation and nominate someone else.

Trump will be bitter and run an independent campaign.

I wish I could be so confident.

Trump leaving the GOP like that would be an existential threat to the entire GOP, not just the presidential campaign. If even half his supporters refused to vote Republican, for whatever reasons, it'll be a smoking ruin across the board.

When have the party leaders ever bucked Trump or -- most importantly -- the base? If Trump's base holds, he's the candidate. Being impeached and arrested only adds to his allure, to the MAGAts.

The GOP don't control the primaries, that'd be the voters. And the GOP voters are out of their damned minds.

I am not so confident. They have bitterly routed out anyone with a brain... and their voters liked it.

Last time I heard about it was the 2016 GOP primaries. They pulled out all the stops trying to prevent Trump's nomination. They tried desperately to hand the nomination to Cruz or Kasich, anybody who wasn't Trump. They failed. Trump waltzed to victory at the Republican Convention.

Shortly thereafter, even Ted Cruz was kissing Trump's ass.
Yuck.

Yup. I'm still registered Republican because I'm a lot more afraid of them than of the Democrats and I want to be able to vote for moderates. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've had the opportunity to vote for a moderate--they're shoo-ins for the endangered species list and none have shown up in my area.

At least it still produces various voter guides that do a pretty good job of telling me who not to vote for!
