Donald Trump took a victory lap early this morning after exerting his considerable leverage to make sure he does not have to stand onstage for longer than two hours at the next GOP debate. The real estate mogul and former reality TV star, whose flair for the dramatic has kept him the GOP front-runner in the race for the White House, seemed to fade in the third hour of the most recent GOP debate on CNN, when it moved past the preliminary insult-hurling that characterized the first GOP debate on Fox News Channel, and got down to policy wonkery. Several political pundits and TV navel lint gazers noted Trump’s fade-out in their coverage.

This is an interesting take on why the Donald did this: he can't stand the heat of dealing with policy at a technical level.

Is this true? or is there some other reason for the clock blocking?

I think the reason is twofold:
- Trump is 69 and thus was oldest on that stage that included some relative whippersnappers. In fact, Trump is old enough to be a major contender for the Democratic nomination. ;)
- Viewer fatigue for a debate lasting longer than two hours is a real thing. Now I appreciate problems of having ten or eleven people on a stage and giving them all time but they should have divided the main/kiddie table debates differently and limited main debate to a maximum of 7 people.

Yes, plus Republicans aren't especially concerned with new policy proposals beyond how large of a tax cut to give to the wealthy. And this is not something that they want to expose to the average voter.

Sounds about right.

He gets to be there for the fun of the debate, then when it gets serious and he actually needs to know something, he bows out, so his ignorance isn't paraded in front of the American people.

Bad sign for a would-be president.

The highest office keeps ungodly hours. Trump can't even stand up for more than 2 hours.

Trump can't even stand up for more than 2 hours.
You think the geriatrics on the Dem side, Hillary (68), Bernie (74) or Biden (73) - if he joins the race - would enjoy standing on debate stage for three hours any better than Trump did? Hillary already had to take extended bathroom breaks - what if her weak bladder causes her to miss that 3AM phone call?

Okay, I'll take the bait: That Depends...

Trump's been running a campaign with the slogan, "I dare you to elect me President!" Seriously, he needs to borrow that T-shirt from Rick Perry that says, I'M NOT SMART, and start wearing it.

And I never realized Hillary was so young. What a hottie!

But they do it. Trump doesn't. Hilary can take a call while on the pot. We all do at one time or another, right?

Okay, I have changed the article referred to in the below text.

Donald Trump took a victory lap early this morning after exerting his considerable leverage to make sure he does not have to stand onstage for longer than two hours at the next GOP monkeys throwing feces event. The real estate mogul and former reality TV star, whose flair for the dramatic has kept him the GOP front-runner in the race for the White House, seemed to fade in the third hour of the most recent GOP monkeys throwing feces event on CNN, when it moved past the preliminary insult-hurling that characterized the first GOP monkeys throwing feces event on Fox News Channel, and got down to policy wonkery. They didn't. The Dem debate was shorter that the 2nd Republican debate.
Trump doesn't.
Actually he did. He just doesn't want to go three hours again.

I would not be so sure. She seems to have problems even using two email accounts on the same phone ...
