One could argue, if Trump gave him money, why didn't the University get to stay. On the other hand, why was there no lawsuit? That would have probably cost Trump much more than $35,000.
Yes, it is very common to have your corporation kicked from a state and then said owner decides to donate money to the campaign of the guy who is running for Governor... who kicked you out of the state. Trump later gave $35,000 to the gubernatorial campaign of then-Attorney General Greg Abbott. A spokesman for Abbott, now the Republican governor of Texas, has said it’s “absurd” to suggest a connection between the case and the donation that came several years later and that Trump University was “forced out of Texas and consumers were protected.”
